x30 sync issues + backup questions

I've had the x30 for several months now and I can't use it as a daily solution, it's just too big and bulky. I've decided to use the x just for GPS navigation.

My first issue is everytime the x dies (which is too frequently) and I want to sync it with my PC I need to rename it. I put the X in the cradle and it asks me to name it. First I used Axim. After it died i tried to use Axim again it said it was already in use and to use a new name.

1. why does it keep on doing that, doesn't it recognize the unit as one in the same?

The next issue is I am going on vacation...I am using the x for GPS to the airport then I will leave the x in the car while I am away. My x doesnt last 4 days off, so I know it wont work when I get back in 3 weeks...when I plug it back into the car port the GPS software wont be installed...is there a freeware backup/restore program that will run off a SD card and that I can restore the GPS software?

everytime you let the battery die, your axim hard resets and you lose all the data in main memory. to recover, you should regularly backup so that you can restore when needed. Sprite backup is a good one.
