I've been having this problem for almost a year now. When I press the mail button (just right of up,down, left, right pad), the application doesn't fully open. I only see New, Tools, and Accounts at the bottom of the screen. I don't see any messages, instead I see the today screen of which I can't tap any of those buttons. It appears that most of the messaging program is minimized or hidden, except for new, tools, and accounts options. This problem never happens when I tap messaging from the programs folder, but happens about 75% of the time when I press the hardware messaging button.
Sorry, I have a hard time understanding your directions. I went to settings, buttons, and button 4 is mapped to Messaging, so there's nothing to be changed.

So your saying opening Inbox through the start menu/today page works?
I think it's the RAM/Processor speed for some reason cannot cope with opening your inbox (I'm presuming you have alot of mail?)
Try:
1. Deleting some Mail/Sorting it to folders so less is displayed upon first opening the app.
2. Clean up your Pocket PC. Clean caches, temp folders etc.
3. Download an app that closes applications upon clicking "X" rather than miminizing them.
4. Set Messaging button to something else, see if that works, and if so set it back to inbox
5. If still no luck, try uninstalling larger applications and re-installing to a Storage Card.
6. Try having the options in Messaging set so the attachments aren't stored in the Storage Card, this way the program isn't accesing extra memory upon opening each time...
7. Hard Reset, but do not backup/restore. This is simply restoring the problem. Simply re-install all lost programs and copy/paste files back to their original place.
8. Upgrade your firmware, but do not backup/restore... read 7
Thanks for your suggestions. I have only 101 emails, so this is not much at all (this problem occured even when I had 10 emails). [As a funny side note, I used to have over 2500 emails in the inbox folder back when I had a palm because palm's email program didn't support multiple folders).
I have followed 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7.
I will test out #4 now and will see how it works for a week. If that doesn't work I will try #6. I will avoid #8 as apparently a lot of people don't like the newest firmware (and I don't think Dell has documented this problem as being fixed anyways). I assume you've had the same problem as me... Do you happen to remember which of the step(s) you did? Thanks again.

I might try #6, but I'm worried the attachements will eat up too much RAM. I wonder if there is a way to delete certain attachements for the ppc and not have it deleted from Outlook XP.
