x30high EXTREMELY unreliable

I'm so fed up with having to reset this damn thing at least once everyday. i'm using pocketbreeze and some other app that has buttons on the today screen, and occasionally when i click on the buttons, the x30 just gets stuck on the loading (spinning thing) and remains there.

Maybe your ppc is getting loaded down with too much junk, just like windows pcs do. A hard reset should help.

I have an x30 high- loaded with apps, and do not have this problem. Soft reset about 1-2 a week. I would suggest a hard reset, then reload apps one at a time. This will help you figure out which program is the culprit.

had my x30 High for 4 months now and only needed a Soft reset when apps require it. Alot more reliable than my Palm Tungsten T. Like Annejillian said, backup your data do a hard reset and try again. I would try it for a few days with it just like it came out of the box, this will help determine if it is a hardware problem.

Soft Resets are very rare for me with my X30H, maybe it's the combination of programs, or not enough RAM left over to run stuff. Check what's resident in memory and maybe use built in storage or an SD card for stuff that doesn't HAVE to be in main memory.

Also, check and see how different programs work with one another. Sometimes software will conflict. That's all I can offer, since I've never had a problem with my handheld.

loading a lot of garbage on your today screen is what screws it up, i have HUNDREDS of applications loaded on my 512MB SD card and my pda usually never screws up, it only screws up when i have those today screen plug ins enabled to monitor your memory and stuff.

Have you tried pitching the button app that is triggers the problem?

I have several Today screen apps loaded on my X30H and it pretty much only gets reset when I do a backup every couple of weeks.

(The apps: WisBar Advance 2, Weather Panel, Contact Breeze, and Pocket Breeze with Pocket Plus on one of its tabs.)

see, i don't know which program is the culprit because it is soo random. but i've noticed alot of the times its my mp3 player, but then again, it might just be a mental thing cause thats pretty much the only button i use on the today screen.

I use pocket plus, btw, for the buttons, which i think is a pretty reliable program (reputation)

joethemole, how's your memory usage? Is the RAM nearly full? This is oftentimes the culprit. Otherwise, you've definately got a bad app in there. I would make sure that other apps aren't running in the background (Settings/Memory/Running Progs - I think that's the order of viewing this). Let us know what you're seeing.

joethemole - do you use the Dell task manager - Switcherbar? This cased my X30i to play up a bit - but now I use Handyswitcher by Dinar soft and I have very few problems. Make sure your PIE cache is freed up too - Tools>options>memory - then hit the second button. Change the history to a low figure too.

I do tend to soft-reset twice a week or too and this seems to clear the trash which gums up memory.

As others have said here, do a hard reset and then only install the progs you want. I played with lots of trials and this caused my Ax to fall over - one hard reset, and re-install and all was fine again.
Don't restore from a recent backup after a hard reset - you may just put the same probs back into your Ax.
My Ax is pretty stable overall and very usable - you may be having teething probs.
Hope the above helps.

the dell axim X30h is one of the most rock solid pda's on the market period.

well, comma. if you "upgraded" to ROM A06 then that is your problem. reverse it and go upto ROM A05. Much more stable.
