Pocket Word/Excel replacement??

Long time Palm user, with Docs to Go (free with Palm).

Just got a used (like new) X30 to play with and see if it has come far enough to use instead of Palm.

I have some documents that I can put on the Palm in Docs to Go with no problem. Pocket Word just barfs on them and can't convert.

Any decent replacements available at reasonable cost? If not, the PocketPC is unusable and the Palm still wins.

TIA

ch3 welcome to Aximsite (even though you have 0 posts?). You should be able to take a docs to go file and conver it to Word, then transfer it to the ppc.

You could use Styletap to run Palm software on the PPC.

See the thread below:

What I have is a Word file on the PC which has some tables in it. It is a one page document of schedules.

Docs to Go will convert to the Palm just fine.

When I try to take the PC Word doc to the Dell, it just hangs and says it can't convert. Seems PocketWord and PocketExcel are really poor (not surprising since it is from MS). I retired from a computer manufacturer that was in bed with MS, so we had to use all MS products, whether they were best or not.

I saw several possible products with good ratings, but not cheap, to replace Pocket Word and Excel.

Thanks for input. The Palm emulator looks interesting, as well. I am not ready to give up, just don't want to spend a lot of money to do what software should have done to start with.

Oh, you need a more advanced version or pocket word called textmaker. The same company also makes an advanced spreadsheet. The pocket word/excel are pretty basic.

On another note, you have 2 posts and a post count of 1, how strange. Hope your question is answered. As Vanilla Ice once said, "Get away from that zero and get with a hero." I think, in retrospect, he was talking to you, ch3, and he was trying to tell you to move away from Palm and come to Pocket PC.

Softmaker's textmaker nad planmaker. May not be cheap, but good software usally costs something. Thats why pocket word/excel are free with ppcs, becuase they suck.

I tried Repligo - it converted the file, but dropped all the tables. Not much help. I'll look at textmaker.

So far, I like playing with the X30. It is faster than my Palm Tungsten E, and the screen is comparable. I am still looking for a few programs to replace a couple I have on the Palm.

Thanks for all the help.

I have heard that Softmaker (the maker of Textmaker and Planmaker) actually sells their stuff cheaper on Ebay than they do online. Might be worth checking out. The newest version is in beta testing and will probaly be out in a few weeks. So far, it looks awesome.

Softmaker has had a sale during Octoberfest (they are in Germany). I got Textmaker for less than $12 then.
I've heard you can get deals from eBay like mentioned above.

It really works so much better than pWord. I don't convert any docs and it works great.
