Wifi with adhoc
First off I just gotta say I got my x30 yesterday and I absolutely love it.
Now onto the real reason for this thread...
From what I've read there are many people who are unable to get wifi working with adhoc. For a few hours I had this problem despite reading all the wifi faqs/tuts I could get my hands on. But then I finally got everything configured properly to share my files and internet connection so I thought I would give some info on what I did which will hopefully help some others get their wifi working right.
My wifi card is an Airlink AWLH3026 that cost me a whole 10 dollars on ebay. It works beautifully and I highly recommend it if anyone is looking for a wifi card.
PC side settings:
ip: 192.168.0.1
gateway: empty
preferred dns: 0.0.0.0
networking card advanced tab:
networking type: 802.11 Ad Hoc
WEP encryption, 128 bits
Axim:
ip: 192.168.0.3
gateway: 192.168.0.1
get the dns, alt dns from your internet connection on your desktop by opening a command prompt (cmd in 2k/xp, command in 9x/ME) and typing ipconfig /all
settings for connection profile:
authentication: shared
data encryption: wep
And of course turn off the power saving mode via the WLAN tool's menu.
Also I should note that I was trying forever to set up the connection by not using the utility for my Airlink card but I uninstalled the card and reinstalled it with the utility so I'm not sure if the utility is absolutely necessary to getting the connection working or not but right now I'm not going to mess with anything because it's working awesome. ;)
Once again I hope that helps someone because transferring files and syncing in a usb cradle is NOTHING compared to the speed of wifi! ;)
