With many networks, it stops the PPC from working. What it’s supposed to do is shut down the wireless transmission temporarily when the device is not actively sending. The problem is, this is not part of the standards and different equipment manufacturers can implement it in different ways, or not at all. This frequently means that when it’s active, the router stops hearing from the remote device and assumes the connection should be terminated.
It's usually the first thing to disable when you are having connection problems with your network.
