Please help with Error 404 Not Found

I've been tinkering with this thing for two days; I am almost there. I have a linksys 802.11b router. It's hooked up fine. I have a connection with Internet Explorer - Anytime I try to go to any web site I am prompted to enter my user name and password - I enter, and then I get "Error 404 Not found (Bad request or resource not found). What's odd is that I don't have this problem using Netfront. Please help.

Thanks to all those wonderful replies . . . well anyway I figured it out. I had the box checked for "this connection uses a proxy server," I unchecked that box and I'm up and running. Thanks for all the wonderful replies. I can't wait to ask this site for help with my Axim problems. . .NOT!

if you'd expected help ... you cannot just be so general in your question .... there are so many variable in between that could be the culprit !! hence, nobody even know where to begin helping you without the result of having hundreds of replies back and forth figuring out the exact problem !! ...

I can see how tech supports is pulling their hair out if they received a call from you !!! ... no idea where to begin the troubleshooting without wasting hours on the phone !!!

ever think of that ?? nice attitude !!! and don't let the door hit you on the way out !!!

Also, consider a bump of the thread early in the morning. And be ready to have your answer for when somebody else asks the same question!
