Active Sync connects but won't sync

I've looked through this forum and haven't run across this ActiveSync problem so am hoping someone can help.

My Axim X30 has worked just fine until a few days ago when suddenly I cannot do an Active Sync. There IS a connection made but rather than synchronize I get the ActiveSync error message saying the it encountered a problem and needs to close. Funny thing is that I also use the Mobilpocket reader and can synchronize betweent Mobilpocket on my PC and my Axim (I subscribe to several news sites on Mobilpocket that update daily) with no problem (it does not use ActiveSync to synchronize).

I have tried everything I can think of. I have done soft resets, a hard reset, have uninstalled and reinstalled the ActiveSync software, rebooted the computer several times, checked connections, tried different cables. The pins were replaced recently on the Axim and are fine.

Any suggestions?

(By the way, I was palmuser before I bought my Axim X30 and have used the Axim religiously since. Need to change my username - how do I do that?).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey palmuser-

Try this... With your Axim UNcradled/synced, open ActiveSync on your computer. Under the file menu select your Mobile Device. Then delete the partnership - a little further down the same menu. Now hook up and try to sync your Axim. You should be prompted to establish a new partnership. Hope this works for you.

I tried that, the Active Sync window shows No Partnerships, the Mobile Device selection under the file menu is greyed-out so can't enter anything. The error message window saying encountered a problem and can't close also pops up. When I close that the Active Sync window goes away. The No Partnerships is the key to my problem, I know now, but not sure how to fix this.
Thanks.

Okay. Thanks for the additional info. Provided it ISN'T your new pins... Try uninstalling ActiveSync from your computer - remove all traces of it. Reboot your system and then reinstall to a different directory. Reboot again to make sure the new settings have been properly written to your registry. That might solve it. You probably already tried this though. Did you try different versions of ActiveSync? I'll assume you're currently running 3.8? I'm currently using 4.1 without a problem.

LevelAxe,
I uninstalled 4.1, reinstalled it to a different directory, rebooted. I was then able to connect the Axim and establish a new partnership. Everything seems to work fine now, performed an Active Sync with no glitches. The key seems to have been to reinstall in a different directory as my earlier reinstalls to the defalult location had no effect on the problem. Thanks a lot for your help.

Very cool. Just happy it wasn't a hardware issue.
