Active Sync issue is driving another person nuts... HELP!!!

I Purchased an used Axim x30 and is looking towards to using it with my BT GPS receiver. However, I Run into Active sync issues unable to get the software and map source over to the PPC. Any help will be appreciated

I managed to get internet connections (Home wireless router) and dail up as well using a BT cell phone as a modem but just can't seem to get files sync between desktop and PPC.

I selected Contacts and files as the option for the sync.
When I connected my axim to usb port, I can hear the (ding dong) sound.
A pop up screen (pocket_PC), another sound and the icon on system tray turns green.
one more sound then the icon on the pop screen turns green and starts spinning.
It says looking for changes. WIthin 5-10 sec, I hear another the sound.
This time the icon on system tray turns grey (not connected),
The pop up is still green and spinning which eventually gets disconnected.
Nothing gets across to the PPC when I check with the file explorer.

If I power up my PC with PPC connected here is the error message I will get:
"Synchronization cannot be complated successfully. Discount your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the MS active Sync troubleshooter in MS Active Sync helpon your desktop computer"... not much help there:rolling:

I searched this forum and google as well. Read and tried many suggestions still unable to get anything sync'd. What have I missed?

Desktop:
OS: MS winxp service pack 2
Active Sync 3.7 from CD now is v3.8

PPC
Hardware: Dell Axim x30
OS: Windows Mobile 2003, Second Edition
connection : USB Cable

Try removing all the files from the sync directories on both devices and reboot the PC and soft reset the axim. Then try to sync again. That seems to fix this problem for me.

Still can't sync

Thanks for the response:)

There is never any files on the PPC co's synchronization never worked
(Contacts file is empty)

Remove files from PC then tried your suggestions. The Active sync program went through the same routins (took a bit longer this time) unfortunately same results

fwiw here are the issues I've had and solved with my axim. (axim51v.. it may or may not apply to your axim 30)

#1/ PC detected axim plugged in but would not connect let alone sync

-> PC firewall was blocking the private net created when the axim is plugged in.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx and the troubleshooting firewall applications - they have detailed steps for each main firewall product. I followed the advise for tend and it works great now.

#2/ Connects, 'syncs' and for a few seconds I can copy files to/from my mobile device but then the device vanishes
-> Appears to be a problem using the Axim51v behind a usb hub.

My mobo has many usb2.0 ports; (8 total). I recently recabled and moved my axim to a higher port ( 7 or 8) and started getting problems with it disconnecting.
I moved it to ports 3 and the problem went away. I also installed the new 4.1 beta and let it install new usb drivers. Between these two steps I now get 100% reliable syncing.

I'm sure there might be other issues, but these two steps sorted me out great.

Hi thanks for sharing your knowledge.

#1 is not applicable in this case bacuse I don't use the software firewall (zone alarm or Winxp (off)...etc). I use the hardward firewall from Linksys. After reading your post I went into linksys to disable the firewall and re-test the sync.... same results.

I might test it out on my friend's PC if he would let me install the Active SYnc.
Upgrading to 4.1 is the other option i am pondering

A hard reset fixed the sync problems

Got the sync problem resolved by hard reset.... nothing to it

Hmm:rolling: wonder if that person selling this unit because of the sync issue

Thanks Benots4! This solved a problem I had posted about elsewhere about my notes failing to synch. That was not your purpose, but your answer did double duty!

Don't bother. I did that and 4.1 fails at least as often as 3.8 did? I'm tired of doing hard reset, and having to reinstall my programs after where I had them. Every 2 months at the most and you'll be doing it again.

MS is no help whatever.

I don't have firwalls other than MS, and the Activesync stuff is excluded, per their instruction. The funny thing is when this happens I can see the contant on my Axim through Exlporer, and Activesync says I am connected, but also says it can't connect. The Axim gets really hot after going through the sequence for 20 minutes at a time, before reporting that it can't sync.

Sure wish there was another conduit that we could use. Haven't found any yet.

Not sure what to tell you. Hope you'll find a way to get the sync issues resolved.
I guess I am like a "Hard reset" did the job for me.
