dell axim x30 and dlink dir-635 router wifi nightmare
okay i read just about anything i could find on this problem and nothing seems to help.
I have dell axim x30 upgraded just today to A06 firmware. I have a home network setup with dir-635 dlink (draft .11n) router with latest 1.09 firmware. The router is configured to broadcast ssid, is in mixed mode (802.11b, .11g, .11n) and Auto security setting (WPA or WPA2) with a preshared network key. Mac filtering turned off.
so i try and connect axim x30 to this network. I tried using dell wlan utility before upgrading firmware on it to connect and nothing.... i made sure all the settings were correct (1000000 times lol) and nothing....it just said connecting... and then network available again and not connected.
So i decided to upgrade my firmware to A06 (from A00). Now dell wlan utility does not have wpa tkip security option. Anyways it didnt work before.
The new firmware upgrade came with odyssey client. From what i read it is much more compatible with wpa encrytpion so i gave it a shot. It found my network, i put it in as infrastructure which it is, set encryption mode to wpa -tkip, entered the key,... and when i click to connect they odyssey client says searching for access point... and thats as far as it goes as nothing happens,, it jsut keeps on searching and searching...
However if i set the encryption to wpa-aes odyssey says adapter not present. I find it to be an absolute nightmare. Dunno what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Huh, sounds freaky. My x30 also has the A06 ROM, but its Dell WLAN Utility still can use WPA-TKIP.
Random silly questions from me:
1) The router was set to WPA, not WPA2? (You listed both, so just making sure).
2) Did you try setting the router to just pure b-mode (or mixed b/g if it is possible)?

thanks for reply.
yeah its both wpa and/or wpa2, and they both work since all my pcs at home use wpa2 and my mates notebook uses wpa and it works fine on the network.
and unfortunately my router works only in .11n mode or mixed(.11n, .11g, .11b). And the only way 2 try and connect axim is through mixed mode. Still doesnt work.
I quite literally read through every single piece and article i could find on the topic and nothing seems to work, i start thinking if its possible at all with this new dir-635 router.

M

This is a common problem with the X30 the problem is the mode of your router the wireless card in the Axim does not like "Mixed Mode" you can do a couple of things 1. change the mode on your fast pre N router to b or by a separate AP and set it to b for your axim x30. I currently have an AP and a Router so I set my AP to b and left the router at g and my wife's axim connected immediately.
