Windows Mobile is not sold separately; but only preinstalled on the device from the manufacture.

The way you have to do it, is to download a new ROM image from Dell and then install this on your Axim. Look around on this forum, to find out how to update the ROM image on the PDA.

Hi Erlingt, i tryed the rom update even the hex editing without any success,

I called Dell support and they thold me that the X3 can not be flashed, it came in a specific language and it will stay that way...

So i gues it will be more easy to install linux on it instead of window...

I know Linux may broke permenantly the device but since i can not use it any way i have nothin to loose...

You can do it you just have to follow the steps exactly. Make for sure that you have the right Rom to begin with and then do a search for this topic. you will find what you are looking for. look for boot loader also.

Maybe that is the problem get the right Rom...
after a week im still stuck with the same rom, each updrade that i tryed tell me the the update is unessary or is not suitable for my device, maybe beacause it have the last update..

After Searching I found that the German rom is on A03 and the last ROM is on A02 so this is why it dosent work..

I found the french Rom Update (R80977) witch is on A03 so i downloaded it and the German ROM Update (R80978)

Then I did a backup of my axim X3 who gived the file A02-01070400GE.RIS
so I edited both files P16R_A04080400FR.IMG from French Rom Update (R80977) and my backup : A02-01070400GE.RIS
I cut the first 200 bytes from the file file P16R_A04080400FR.IMG then I selected the first 200 bytes from my backup A02-01070400GE.RIS then i saved the file as A02-01070400GE.RIS (I renamed the original A02-01070400GE.RIS to A02-01070400GEORI.RIS Before)

Then I used the setup program from the german Rom Update (R80977) and did a restore of A02-01070400GE.RIS (the modified one)

After 15 minutes My device came on in the new language...

I did a backup of the device and it gived me A03-04080400FR.RIS So Now im on A03 French...

Well since im french, english or french is the same....as long that i understand it
