One of the most common problems I have is not getting a proper IP address. I'm always changing from static to dynamic.
If you have just a little antenna at the top of the screen then you don't have an IP address, but if you have a little antenna with the 2 little arrows then you should have got an IP address. It's different for my x3i. On that if there were two solid arrows then it had an ip but if they were moving then it was still trying to recieve an IP.
But the dell WLAN UTILITY said I was all good??
I don't know???
ok what the differnece btween WEP and WPA??
I have WEP 128 bit set up on my wireless network
thanks
WPA is more secure than WEP and addresses many of the vulnerabilities found in WEP encryption. WEP uses fairly uncomplicated variations of the same key to encrypt all packets. WEP also uses the RC4 crypto algorithm, and if a large stream of packets is captured and the same key used, an attacker could in theory recreate the encryption key and compromise the network.
WPA generates a unique key for each connection to a router/access point, and since the pre-shared key is seldom used in the process, it makes it more difficult for hackers to recreate/discover the key to break into the network. WPA also uses a feature called "Message Integrity Check" that can identify tampered sent packets. One caveat: with the pre-shared key (WPA-PSK) configuration, don't use easily guessable keys. :)

under the tab proxy settings then tap advanced and I see this below
server port
http 80
wap 9201
secure wap 9203
socks webproxye1 1080
Or will this stuff not matter when I uncheck the other box and clear the proxy server box?
The 'Advanced' is greyed out when the box is unchecked and I suspect (although don't know for sure) that those settings will be cleared when the Proxy server field is cleared.
WPA is more secure but is not supported on all equipment. I've never bothered using it because I have some equipment that doesn't support it and, while WEP can be cracked, 90% of wifi networks are totally in the clear so why would anyone bother taking the time? You said above you are in a fairly rural area so to crack your network, someone would have to set up a PC to collect many megabytes of transmissions and I think you'd notice if a van was parted within a couple hundred yards of your house for a few days.

In the WLAN, Advanced page, as long as you have a valid IP (probably starting 192.168.) then you are 'good' in this respect.

thanks for all your help guys
I will give it a shot when I get home and let you know if it works
As far as WEP or WPA I'm sticking with WAP like you said Ike I don't need the extra protection around my network.
I have enough problems with my wireless going to my PDA ,,,,LOL
I have had this same problem, and what ended up solving it was resetting my router (Belkin g) about 3 times then all was sweetness and light again. I had full signal, but couldn't go online. It's very frustrating, but now that I know the symptoms it's easy to fix. Just in case you hadn't tried it...

People often make the (inaccurate) assumption that if their PC works with their router, then it should work with their PPC. That's often a wrong assumption since PCs can have capabilities to connect that do not exist on the PPC. That said, as long as your Axim has a valid IP as I mention above, I do not believe the router is your problem and I think getting rid of the proxy settings will work for you.

It will not remove my network so I can start over.
I really think the wifi is busted.
It never gave me this much trouble,
I have done a HARD reset I mean everything was gone...like new.
STILL can't connect to the web.
I shut of the 128 bit and made it an open netwrk and still no luck
How the hell can I tell if the radio is busted???
Try connecting to open networks or hotspots. If you can access the internet, the radio is fine. You mentioned you were able to connect to your router and get good signal, but can't connect to the internet. I have reason to believe your radio is ok.
