Question What data is lost when a battery dies?

Hi, this is my first post here. I've been thinking about getting a PDA for a while now, and when I saw a Axim X3 going cheap (i think) on ebay, I thought I'd dive in - and if all goes well, upgrade later...

I should get my 'used' X3 in the next few days, and in preperation, I've been reading up and have found this site particulary helpful.

I know my way around a PC just fine, but PDA's are new to me. I understand that software and the OS will be unstalled on the ROM and are perminent.

What I don't get is this 'loosing data' when the batteries die, particularly if the backup battery is old/knackered - which I'm guessing mine will be.

What exactly is the 'data' that is lost? Are we talking about custom settings?

I intend to store my 'files' on a memory card.

If someone can expand on this issue with the basics, it would be really helpful, cheers...

Welcome to Aximsite; home of the best advice in the World!!

The data lost refers to anything u install; when battery power is totally drained, the os of the pda goes back to factory settings. To avoid this mishap, I strongly encourage u that u get a good backup app such as Spb Backup or Sprite Backup. Search on this forum for the two; will find numerous feedback from our members. Personally, I use Sprite Backup. Hope this helps.

Sprite can also be set to do a backup automatically once the battery level gets below a chosen percentage
