Lost synch capability with my PC

After I installed the newest Msoft Activesync, I lost any chance of synching with my PC. I have tried all the routines I know of to get back to synch capability. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the new version, reinstalled the older version that had been working. All I get is that the device is not recognized. Anyone have any suggestions?

The usual suspects.
Fire wall.
Anti virus.
Main Usb, not hub.
Soft reset.
PC reboot.

I worked through all the usual suspects: firewall, A/V, going through the same USB that was working before, soft reset on the Dell, system restore to an earlier day for the PC, reboot. All that stuff and nothing.

Any other ideas?

I thought about pins out of place because the mobile charging plug doesn't hold in place any longer but still charges the unit. I don't see anything out of place and the Axim is charging in its PC base.

Since I had a synch relationship at one time would that relationship be causing a problem after I uninstalled the old software before installing the new software?

I just discovered I have the same problem. The Activesync troubleshooter said it was a firewall problem and directed me to the instructions for setting up the personal firewall. After trying for hours to do that I uninstalled Norton completely from my pc and it still wouldn't sync. When I run the trouble shooter it says there is nothing wrong but it still won't sync. Come on...
