SDHC access information by sector, not by byte which makes it a software issue since a normal SD reader doesn't know hoe to access an SDHC card. Thats the difference.

Currently, the X30 cannot handle SDHC cards since it doesn't have the driver to do so.

Speed only makes a difference if your writing information on the card on a computer. PDAs will always write at 1x speed.

Many people pretend using 4g SD but in fact the Axim x30 accept them, read and who free and maximum space but this is not a guaranty that you can use thefull 4gb.
I have a simple test to verify that 4gb really work.Put 3.6 gb of files data.It could be music, document or anything. For the rest of space try to install all your applications or games .If you are able to install programs without errors and you have access read/write to all the non-application data you previously added, then you truly take advantage of the 4gb.

i'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here exactly..but i believe you're trying to say that the 4gb card will function fine but you may not be utilizing the full 4gb of storage space.
maybe we'll see if someone has a chance to do your little test. i don't really have the patience or what to screw around with the info i've just placed on it...i've got about 3gb of stuff on there right now.

If you have 3gb of application and data, you on the way to validate that 4gb really work.I would like to know the brand of SD memory you use so I can buy it also. Are you able to access your files with installed programs like movieplayers?Let say you have a pocket music player and can play mp3 already on the SD card. That would be great if you could install 3.5 gb of applications with no problems.
I really hope you right.Kingston memory support and Dell support discourage me to buy over 2gb SD card.Dell say that Axim won't recognize memory over 2gb and can't guarantee anything over 1gb.I'm using a 2gb Kingston now and so far everything is ok.But one Kingston Support guy clam that I should get rid of my 2gb and purchase a 1gb because I may loose my data. When the manufacturers try to persuade you of something and you discover something else, something must be wrong.

well i lied- just checked & i have 2.5 gb of stuff with 1.3 free (so showing a tot of 3.8 gb available).
i am able to play mp3 files that are stored on the card. i was also told by dell not to use >1gb..i've been using a 2gb sandisk card for well over a year.
the 4gb i have is a transcend (all the sandisk, lexar, kingstons that i found were all sdhc). from newegg.
Newegg.com - Transcend 4GB Secure Digital (SD) Flash Card Model TS4GSDC - Retail
so far so good; no formatting required- just popped it in. $23 shipped.

I don't know what is wrong with Dell.Do they really know their product?I know that sound odd that a company have poor knowledge of their product. Some of their costumer agent are purely ignorant. They tell me I can't backup my SD card.

I've got 3.39 GB of stuff on my Transcend card so far. (That leaves 355 MB of space.) The actual size of a 4GB card is 3.74 Gigabytes. (The marketing departments for both harddrive and flash memory manufacturers figure 1000 bytes = 1 KB, 1000 KB = 1MB, etc. It's actually 1024 bytes = 1 KB, 1024 KB = 1MB. Eventually the difference adds up.)
I've had some issues when transfering a /lot/ of files (8450 taking up 1.31 GB to be precise, Shadow of Legend is huge) even using a card reader and the speed is slower then a harddrive even in a card reader (no big surprise there) but overall this card's been working alright.
No out of space errors which makes me think that maybe those errors you had AximBlaster were caused by something else. Like maybe a limit (within ActiveSync or Windows Mobile) on the number of programs that can be installed.
Also note, if a card is formatted in FAT16 there will be a limit on the number of folders that can be in the card's root folder. (512 minus any additional entries used for long file names.) I made a Program Files folder on my card where I store stuff installed from cab files, even though my card is formatted FAT32 and shouldn't have that issue.

i dont' know if i'd risk it. you can get the transcend for $23 shipped to a US address. It's so small, if you know someone- friend or relative in US they could ship it to you regular mail for real cheap.
Or, if you have a bunch of things to order & live near the border, have it shipped to a US address & pick up. You could maybe use a mail forwarding service but then the cost will bring it close to the $35 on ebay (maybe not though..but i would guess around $30).
The other option..is if you feel confident you can re-sell the cheap chinese duck ones..then you could try then sell...i wouldn't risk it...
is it true the transcend is the only one that works? i didn't know that; although that's the one i got.

The 150x version is available from Tigerdirect's Canadian site here, though it's rather expensive:
Transcend 4GB 150X (18MBsec) Secure Digital Card TS4GSD150 in Canada at TigerDirect.ca
(This is the faster version of the one I have, and was what I'd originally intended to buy. It was previously mentioned in this thread. The US price I think is about $10 more then NewEgg's price.)
This site seems to have the same card I have at a low price, but shipping to Canada will be $10 more then it would be in the US. (Of course, the Transcend ones on Ebay I looked at had $19 shipping charges too. This one at least wouldn't be using overseas shipping.)
Transcend Secure Digital 4GB TS4GSDC - Digital Distributors
More possible sources are here:
transcend 4gb sd -sdhc - - Google Product Search
You'd have to check each one to see if it'll ship to Canada though. (NewEgg doesn't ship to Canada, though you probably know that.)
And Transcend cards might not be the only ones that would work, but I haven't really seen any other non-HC 4gb cards other then those Hong Kong ones, and I wouldn't trust them. (4gb SD cards are non-standard by their very nature so compatibility may vary.)

EdrickV posted the link of https://www.digitaletc.com/go/produc...ingston%AE
I talked with their costumer service and the price for transcend 4gb is not bad. They even accept paypal. For $20 you get a 4gb transcend but they charge you $16 for ups.If you want regular mail they charge $10 but with no insurance.A total of $30 with regular shipping.I think that's better than to wait for 2 weeks honkkong delivery.
I wonder if anyone had experience with this seller?Am always nervous to provide my credit card online.I want to know if anyone had experiecne with that website?
