Possible to repair a broken connector?

Worth it to repair?

Lately I have been having trouble with my x30 and the sync connector. I have not been able to use the cradle for several months. I tried 3 different cradles and it always doesn't work. This is due to a problem with the sync connector. Sometimes I can get the cable to work, either a/c power, or usb, but not both simultaneously. I do this by wiggling the cable a lot and sometimes the charge light turns on or i am able to sync. Lately I found that if i put the axim flat on a table and have the usb cable hanging off the edge of the table with a bit of weight, it pulls the connector in the right way to allow for synching or charging.

Today I was syncing my axim that way and the axim fell off the table and hit the floor. It was carpet so the axim did not shatter but the connector came completely off and was still attached to the cable. While a few pins were slightly in place, i was able to put the connector back into the axim and now it charges on the cradle. It doesn't sync anymore at all.

My question is, do you think it's worth it to get fixed by a 3rd party repair? I'm not sure how permanently damaged it is and whether it's possible to get the connector soldered on again.

Thanks.

Update: i was able to take the connector off again and bend the pins straight. Now the cradle charge doesn't work, though I can charge by the cable using the weighted cable technique. Syncing does not work.

Search around - there is at least one repair shop that has been used by other Axim owners, although only you can decide whether price is right or not.

FWIW, when my X30 experienced the dreaded bent-pin problem the solution chosen was to a) purchase a 2nd battery (one in charging stand / one in Axim) and b) purchase an IR-to-USB adapter for syncing (turns out that there are Certain Things you cannot do over a Wireless Sync connection - even if you ARE able to establish & maintain one....)

This set-up has worked well for past year or so, and still find the Axim to be a very valuable tool (hate that Dell discontinued them!)

Luck!

Thanks, I think I might get it fixed. I wish I could go your way but my blasted axim freezes if i take out the battery and reinsert the same battery or new one. The only way around it is for me to hard reset

I wish dell would make new axims. They are great little machines.

I was able to use a mechanical pencil to fix the pins enough to synch most of the time. I ultimately got the connector fixed by PDASmart and stopped using the sync cable that caused the bent pin, using a cradle instead.

I vote for PPCTechs. They install a connector that's like a PC board instead of the pins. I had them fix my X3i and it worked flawlessly until I dropped it. They have a fast turnaround and responsive service.

For sixty bucks, you can fix the headache once and for all.
