Yes, I used the midlet manager. I tried a JVM (forgot the name) but there was some sort of jscript error, if I remember correctly. Even the midlet manager was a crap shoot-took me over 2 hours just to download the correct one (I still have it if you're interested). As for the method I used-of course it was free =]

Well, first, I had to find the *right* midlet manager. I can include the .cab file if it's allowed in the posting rules of the forum (I honestly don't know).

Then it was a simple matter of installing the midlet manager via the .cab file, then pointing PIE to http://www.operamini.com/download/pc..._basic_midp_1/ (If I remember correctly) and downloading the .jar file (If I remember correctly-it's either the .jar or the .jad file-both of which are linked there).

Was an answer to this ever posted? I'd love to get Opera Mini running on my X3i. But I really don't know where to start.

I used the IBM J9 MidP java that I found on Ipmart (do a google search), it is on other sites, but this was one of the few that was still active. This the only emulator I could get to work, without reading endless pages about something I don't really understand.

The directions on the post are 5 steps. I also used an older version of mini on ipmart (do a search for opera mini in ppc app forum) to start the process. Follow the directions in the post, the first step was a little unclear to me..

Make a folder named J9-MIDP, at the root of your storage card ie sd card\J9-MID-P put everything into that folder. Follow the directions on the post, click on Opera mini it should load the emulator, click install, it will ask for url, put the location of the Opera file ie \SD Card\opera mini.jar. There are a bunch of numbers on the other files..enter the name exactly. This is kind of a pain.

Load it up, it will say something about updating, you can update to Opera Mini 4.1, do this youll get mini.jad which is the newest the Axim can use I believe since its a generic version. Install it the same way as above, it should list itself as Opera Mini 4.1-4.1. For simple quick browsing it is great, I hope the directions were clear enough. This was the easiest to get working for me.

looks complicated...can u just give up the ur last file which is the mini.jad and we run it on our axim and get the program install instead?

EDIT: I installed this on my wifes x30 running 2003SE as a test, it is running Opera Mini 4.2 beta, working great. I had the wrong J9 file uploaded when I made this post, I put the right one in the Opera Mini folder in the link for 2003, sorry it should be working fine now.

Ok, this is as easy as I can make it, you will have to do some work to get it to work, but it's worth it. If you need any additional help just let me know, or post if it works for you.

I've uploaded all the needed files to ftp

Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire

1 Make a folder on your pocket pc named (without the quotes) "J9" to your Storage Card (to the root, so that you have it as Storage Card/J9) I used total commander to do this.

2 Unzip the J9.rar on your desktop and put everything that you just unzipped into the J9 folder you just created on your pocket pc, along with the two opera jad/jar files.

3 Go into the folder that says bin, launch the emulator.exe file (you might want to make a shortcut to this for the future).

4 Click install it will ask you the url type Storage Card/J9/opera-mini-4.2.13057-advanced-en.jar.

Click the Launch button with opera mini 4.2-4.2 highlighted and you should be ready to try it out.
