Question about Syncing Contacts
I am not the most technologically advanced, but I have a question for which a solution would be tremendously appreciated. I have a large number of contacts in my dell axim pocket pc (it is my phonebook). I just got a new laptop and want to sync these contacts so that they are on my laptop as a backup if anything would ever happen to my pocket pc.

I downloaded the "windows mobile device center" and tried to sync my contacts to my laptop, but it didn't work because I don't have Microsoft Outlook. When I bought my laptop I got the basic microsoft office that only has excel, powerpoint, and word, but not outlook. What can I do?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to Aximsite. There are other options, but they involve having desktop software like Outlook, Act!, or Lotus Notes. But if you just want to back them up somewhere just in case the Ax goes down, and chances are you will have to do a hard reset at some point, then just get backup software on your Ax. Look at Sprite Backup, SPB Backup, Sunnysoft Backup and I think there are a couple others.

The files will backup to your flash memory card, so if you have to hard reset your Ax, you can just load your backup right back to your pocket pc.

The software CD that came with the Axim (which you may or may not have) should have a copy of Outlook on it. Mine as I recall came with Outlook 2003, which while old still works, though I use Windows XP. Not sure how well it works with Vista though.
