I need your help - trying to load Outlook 2003 w/ Bus Contact Mgr Update Add-in

I need your help. :activesyn I have a system already set up to sync with my older Dell AXIM 30 (I know it’s older but it does what I need). I have moved some contacts into Business Contacts and I am trying to load Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update Add-in: Business Contacts for Pocket PC to move them into my AXIM 30.
My system consists of:
• Dell Inspiron 530 w/ Windows XP Service Pack 3
• Outlook Pro edition 2003 (SP1) with Business Contact Manager Update
• Dell Axim 30 w/ 2003 second edition ver 4.21.1088 (build 14049)
• Microsoft Active sync ver 4.5.0 (build 5096)

Here is the issue: I can’t determine the correct S/W to load. Looking for advice if you have solved this or know how. Dell told me to call their $$ help line . I go to MS site Microsoft Office Online Downloads.

Option 1. Requires Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Software for Pocket PC. I don’t have it 
This release is an add-in that allows you to synchronize your business contacts and a subset of your communication history to your Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. This add-in works with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update. If you are unsure of which type of device you have, please click here Mobile Phone Help | How To, Tips, and Tricks | Windows Mobile Help.
• Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP Service Pack 2
• This download works with the following Microsoft Office programs:
o Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager
o Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update
• The following are also required:
o Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Software for Pocket PC. If you are unsure of which type of device you have, please click here Mobile Phone Help | How To, Tips, and Tricks | Windows Mobile Help.
o Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1 or later
• For older versions of Pocket PC, please download the earlier version (see below) compatible with older versions of Pocket PC.

Option 2. Requires Microsoft ActiveSync, versions 3.71 to 4.2. I don’t have it  Note: Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is not compatible with this download. This is my version.
Business Contacts for Pocket PC is an add-in to Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update that allows you to synchronize your business contacts and a subset of your communication history to your Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC. While on the go, you can make changes to your business contacts and later synchronize the changes with Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update on your desktop or laptop computer.

Note: This version does not currently support Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Refer to the System Requirements section for device compatibility.
• Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP
• This download works with the following Office program:
o Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update
• The following are also required:
o Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC, or Microsoft Windows Mobile 2002
o Microsoft ActiveSync, versions 3.71 to 4.2

Note: Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is not compatible with this download.

Sorry for the links (I did not insert).

Thanks,

Bob

You have an X30, it runs • w/ 2003 second edition

Option 1 only supports WM5. so you can't use that.

Option 2 supports, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC Second Edition

That suggests to me that you have to use option 2.

The only problem that is obvious to me is that you have Activesync 4.5
and Option 2 suggests you use ActiveSync, versions 3.71 to 4.2

You may just need to install the earlier version of Activesync.

Apart from that, I don't really understand what your question is.

Interesting problem. I agree with Box. Option 2 would require going back to AS 4.2. :)

However, I have WM2003SE conected to a Dell Laptop using AS 4.5 with the Business Contacts Manager installed and don't have a problem. My setup is like yours, except I have an X50. I could be that I had AS 4.2 when I setup my Outlook and then changed to 4.5.

Aximsiteactivesyncicon Thank You - issue resolved

Box & kcallahan,

Thanks for the responses. You did both understand my question. I didn't want to simply go back to a previous ver of Activesync. But after hearing your comments, I did download and am now on Activesync 4.2. I had to clear a number of duplicate entries on past appotments but I know have my Business Contacts on my wonderful little Axim and mobile office is more complete. Thanks to both of you. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Cheers, :)

Bob
