Video Playback Performance

I noticed in your SPB Benchmark results that the X3's Graphic Index is significantly better then the X5 and HP Ipaq. Have you tried playing a video using the Windows Media Player or PocketMVP? Just curious as to the video playback performance.

I moved this to a separate thread, as the other one is supposed to be for Questions for Chris to ask Dell and not for discussion. I figure this might be a pretty big topic. :)

Alright, I was also wondering about the Graphic benchmark results. These seem way too high. I know the X3 is using the PXA263 processor, but these numbers are outrageous. The Graphic Index is almost 6 times higher than any other PDAs on the market. And 242fps on Arkaball compared to around 50fps on other PDAs?

I'm hoping these numbers are correct. But man, they just seem so outrageous that it leaves me questioning SPB Benchmark software on this one.

I was thinking the same thing. Is it possible that the X3 could be that much better?

I just read the barginpda.com review of the X3 (http://www.bargainpda.com/default.asp?newsID=1683) and they also ran the SPB Benchmarks. The Graphics Index results were impressive but not as high as those posted on the Aximsite review. Why are the SPB results at barginpda.com so different then those on this site? Could it be the version of SPB? Are they running another application at the same time?

Maybe the version aximsite is using is not compatible with the new processor?

Remember most dvd movies run at 30fps 200+ would be so fast that nothing could utilize the speed

Does anyone know if perhaps the X-3 has an integrated graphics chip? http://www.ati.com/products/imageon3200/index.html ATI maybe? Stranger things have happened.

That's what I'm thinking, It sounds like it's using an specialized graphics accelerator. Now if this were true, I'd start feeling a bit tempted..... no, must not say such things.....

what are you gonna use more advanced graphics for, most apps are built for regular ppcs without super graphics

True, but as the benchmark apparently shows, even regular graphics are processed much faster, so for instance, Morphgear could possible run GBA games at full speed, with sound since the processor has less to worry about video.
