Will X3 be upgradable to 2004?
Just another question in my quest for a PPC.

It's anyone's guess, hard to say if MS does anything drastic enough to require better hardware (ie higher res screen, different form factors). Right now, most of the PPC designs are very cooke-cutter, but appearently MS has begun to loosen up a bit on design restrictions.

My gut feeling is no, PPC's need to at least move to VGA screens to stay with Palm/Sony.

You assume there will be a WM 2004?

Indeed, I do assume. Seeing that there was a change from 2002 to 2003, I assume that down the road there will be 2004, or some updated OS.

And that will run on today's PDA's? How about the assumption that WM has gone as far as it can go and the Smartphone OS will take over?

Could be.
However, I do not think it is so far fetched. There was a 2002 to 2003 upgrade during the life of current PDA's, was there not?

But there was no 2001. There was 2000, 2002, 2003.

I think I heard that the next release is tied tightly to the next new major desktop release. Can't remember it's codename but no doubt someone else can chime in with it.

2003 was a fairly decent behind the scenes upgrade.

Hell the XP replacement is now delayed to 2006... I doubt I'll have any computer that I own today running at that point.

Longhorn is what you are refering to.
I guess it is really irrelevant to consider upgrades...I just hope you can turn off that blue light.

If the software doesn't allow you to do it, someone will make a program to do so.

Windows XP was code-named Whistler. The next Server code-name was Blackcomb. Both are ski areas in British Columbia. There is a saloon named Longhorn somewhere at the foot of the mountain.
