Usually if everything is set as described in the How-to and it still doesn't work, it's because of a firewall or because NetBIOS is not enabled over TCP/IP on your PC. If you are running WinXP, make sure the built-in firewall is not active.

- NetBIOS is enabled as per the how-to.
- WinXP firewall not enabled
I also tried shutting down my zone alarm, but that didn't make a difference.

Can you ping your PC from the Axim? Even though some people have said PocketHosts causes problems with syncing (they are only able to connect as a guest), a few people have said it works so it may be worth trying.

No I can't ping that PC. I can only ping the router's address. I can't even map that PC's drives.
I will giie Pockethost a try. I'll let you know how ti goes, thanks.

If you are not able to ping then I don't see much hope for any other solutions. What Gateway and DNS are listed for your Axim (the Gateway should be your router's IP and the DNS will either be the router's or your ISP's)?

Yeah, I think this is the root of my problem. I can't even map a network drive.
The gateway is the router IP, and the DNS is my ISP's.
I tried turning off the router firewall, and disabling zone alarm, but I can't ping any of the LAN computers. I tried putting a computer in DMZ, but I can't ping it either.
I can't ping any of the LAN computers from each other :S Yet I'm able to see them all in the Network Places, and share drives, etc.

Yeah, I have that enabled, and I am sharing a drive on each computer. The LAN itself is sharing fine. It's just the Axim that can't see anybody on the LAN.
Plus the LAN computers can't ping each other, but can see each other in the Network Places and share devices. I just can't ping 192.168.1.105 for example.

I just looked back over your posts and cannot find anything saying the rest of your wireless functions work on the X3i. Can you get to the Internet and email via WiFi from the Axim? If not, do you actually have a valid IP number of the X3 (you can get and install vxUtil to check on this if you don't have any way currently).

Oops, yes yes, all the other wireless functions work on my X3i. Internet, email, instant messaging, etc. I can easily get a valid local IP from my wireless router whenever I turn on the wifi. And in case it matters, I do have it setup with a 128-bit WEP code.
I've just recently begun exploring the possibility of synchronizing wirelessly, since I found that I hardly have time to sit down at the cradle (plus, it sounds like a neat thing to do!).
Another thing of note is that for my IPX/SPX frame type, I've manually set all my computers to use Ethernet 802.3, as that was the only way I could get my LAN working (auto detect didn't allow each computer to see other for some reason).
Thanks.

The manual 802.3 settings may be involved but I don't know enough about how PPCs interact with those settings to know where to go with it. Hopefully one of the network gurus that frequent the site will have an answer.

Make sure your X3i is on the same subnet as your PC. In other words, if your PC's IP address is 192.168.1.xxx, then the IP address of your X3i must be 192.168.1.yyy.

..I recently setup my wireless network and I also followed the directions for synching wirelessly, and my X3i worked flawlessly, thanks for all the info guys...
Welp, after reformatting my systems, I tried to wifi sync again. Still couldnt connect to the server.
BUT...
I installed Pocket Hosts, and added my server's local IP address to it. Then I was able to connect!!
BUT...
1) it takes a long time to negotiate (>1min)
2) once it's finished negotiating, I notice Activesync on my server says GUEST???? Then it's still negotiating, and I end up just stopping the process.
When I put the PDA in the cradle, then it recognizes it normally.
