I'm new to Pocket Pcs and can't figure it out. I just got my X3i. I have a wireless router and I can get on the net just fine. How do I synch my X3i to my computer through active synch? For example, I'd like to synch it when I'm downstairs or outside and my computer is upstairs.
Thanks,
Chris

You first have to sync up with your computer and the cradle and setup a partnership, you can't just use guest. Once you get a partnership setup you then go into the connection settings of activesync on the computer and make sure "allow network ..." is checked. Then on the Axim open ActiveSync and go to the options and make sure your computer name is in the box that says "use this pc". Then you should be able to hit sync on the pda and connect to your computer. If you have all this setup make sure you don't have a firewall on your computer that may be blocking it.
Hmmm...all those settings are okay. When I try to manually synch I click on the synch button on the x3i, it starts for about 1/2 a second and then tells me it is unable to find the host..yada yada yada. Do I have to port forward specific ports to my computer? Both the computer and the pda are connected wirelessly through a linksys wireless router

I have a linksys router but not a wireless router. You shouldn't have to touch anything on it. Mine was kind of a pain at first but then it started to work. I might have had to check the box to do a manual sync or something like that. Also I shut it off a few times and turned it back on.
Nope, you don't have to forward any ports. Any transfers should be done in the internal network behind the firewall.
Try my settings and see how it goes. Before you try this, make sure you can connect to the internet and browse with your X3i and sync with the PC using the cradle. Then proceed as follows:
Start->Settings->System->About->Device ID make sure to rename your device without any "underscore" characters
Settings->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks set both fields to "My ISP"
Settings->Connections->Wireless Ethernet Tap on the name of your network. Set connects to: "The Internet". Uncheck the "This is a device-to-computer ad hoc..."
ActiveSync->Tools->Options->Use This PC (Your PCs name should be here). Check both boxes. If you want to explore your X3i while synced, go to the Options box and check "Maintain Connection" under When syncing remotely
With these settings, I can browse the internet and sync wirelessly at any time on my home network, even at the same time. I don't need to use the cradle ever again if I don't want to. Anyhow, let us know how it turns out.
Okay, you rock Toaster!!!! I followed your instructions and it works flawlessly now. This is soooo cool. I renamed my PPC, it was still at the default. I also changed both network fields to "my isp". Everything else was already okay. First try it worked great. Thank you soooo much! I'm going to save these directions in case I ever have to do a hard reset. Thanks again!

Sorry to jump in here at the last minute- But I have a somewhat similar problem. Cradle based sync and browsing works flawlessly. I have all the WiFi settings just as described by Toaster, and my Ax sees my PC and actually opens a connection w/ Activesync and all is well, however it is always recognized as a guest. I've checked the PC settings, the Activesync settings and done a soft reset. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong????
Open activesync, click file, click delete partnership. Next time you try to synch your PC is going to ask if you want to create a partnership, or allow your PPC as a guest. Tell it you want to create a partnership

No joy for me -- yet. Toaster, the only change I had to do from our instructions was set both connections to "My ISP" (the second one was set to "My Work Network" by default).
Now my X3i's Activesync will say "Connecting" when I press on sync. But after about a minute, I get a "Communications Error"
Cannot start communications with the desktop computer.
Reconect our device. If the problem persists, see Microsoft Activesnc help.
Any ideas? My network is controlled by the Linksys wireless-G router. The desktop is wired to the router, while the X3i is obviously wireless. Thanks!
I tried everything that Toaster said but when I get to this step I have a problem:
"Settings->Connections->Wireless Ethernet Tap on the name of your network. Set connects to: "The Internet". Uncheck the "This is a device-to-computer ad hoc..."
I change it from work to The Internet and hit OK and then go back and it still says work. How do I change it and what is my netwrok? I have 4 choices.
