Made in Taiwan or China? Poor quality plastics. Should I return X3i?
I just get my Axim X3i and it turned out that it was made in China, not Taiwan as I expected. It has very good screen and features, but the workmanship is no as good as of those made in Taiwan.
The wireless button is too sensitive, it will be pressed just by a light touch and I do not feel or hear a click when it is pressed. (The recording button is fine and clicks like a mouse button.) I accidentally disable the wireless several times already. The plastic case is loose and when I pinch the jog dial I hear a cracking sound. And the imprint quality on battery looks cheap.
Are yours made in Taiwan or I am just unlucky not to get a good quality Axim made n Taiwan?
Help me decide if I should return it. If you guys are getting Taiwan made Axim then I will return mine and reorder one to try my luck. Or I can get an iPaq 4150 but that one has only 32 MB rom. X3 has good feature and low price but the built quality of the plastics is not good. It is cheap and will last less than 2 years probably. The worse is that the paint will be off soon and it will look ugly.
Give me some advice on what I should do as I do not know the quality of the X5 either or if X5 is made in Taiwan.
Thanks a lot.

r u taiwanese?
I found the X3 to be good build quality. The plastics make it much lighter. My old ipaq was aluminum, but much heavier. I don't hit the wireless button ever because the way i hold it, but looks like you might have a big thumb :)
com'on, stuff from taiwan or china are the same quality... only if it is stamped "made in USA" is it of better quality ;) (i happen to be taiwanese)

mine is also made in china. The quality is good. I to have a problem with the case seeming flimsy but according to the bargainpda.com review of the axim x3, the case does flex.

Dell could make the case Titanium and you would not be able to flex it but it would be heavy! It is a juggling act between material strength/flex/weight/durability, etc.

I'm no ME, but I'm pretty sure that titanium (esp. at this thickness) is pretty dang light.
'Course, I've been wrong before.

Ok, well, the case could be made of solid steel, 5" thick so it won't flex, but then we would be complaining about the weight. It is a trade-off between weight and durability and flex, etc.

You know what would be really cool, and REALLY heavy?
Stone.
You know, like a polished marble counter top. Or maybe Corian. That would be worth the weight, just to have people go "Oohhh!"
And in a pinch, you could use it for self defense.
:D

If you don't want it, I can always use another Axim.
