Upgrading ActiveSync

Has anyone downloaded the newest version of ActiveSync? I'm considering upgrading from v. 3.5 to the newest one on the Microsoft site--v. 3.7.1. I'm curious as to whether others have done so. If so, have there been any problems? Any loss of data?

I went from 3.5 (on the Axim X5 CD) to 3.6 to 3.7 to 3.7.1 with no problems. Never lost data, never needed to make any changes to the settings. With earlier versions, I'd occasionally need to run resync to get connected but the latest one seems to connect consistently on the first try.

BTW, did you mean to post this in the X3 forum? I was under the impression that WM03 required v3.7 for proper connections. If you have the X3, that means you have WM03.

Yes, I'm sorry! I have the X5, not the X3.

But what did you mean when you referred to "running resync"? The reason I'm thinking of upgrading to the new version of ActiveSync is because my Axim decided to stop syncing last week. When I put it in the cradle now, it does not show the device as connected. In addition, my backup battery is down to 50 percent and won't take a charge. This happened suddenly--it had been operating find for 10 months.

I thought maybe the new version of ActiveSync would help.

It's a program (resync) which runs on your PC and shuts down and restarts ActiveSync on your PC. Based on what you've said, I'm not sure that the new AS will help you (although it won't hurt, either) nor will resync. Are you sure your cradle is plugged into the USB port and have you tried switching to a different port?

BTW, the backup battery on the X5 does not recharge. You should buy a new one from most retailers that handle electronics (CR2032).

Yes, I'm quite certain the Axim is properly plugged into the port. This probably synching literally happened within seconds. One minute it synched perfectly, and the next it says "not connected." I plan to disconnect the cradle, reload the AS software and see what happens. Luckily my system is still under warranty.

Thanks for the info about the backup battery. You're the first person who said that--no one else told me the backup doesn't recharge!

Is there a special technique I need to use to switch out the backup battery, to avoid losing data?

Thanks!
