Question Screen size

Can anyone tell me if the screen size is larger on the X3? I know that the doccumentation says 3.5", but all the doccumentation for the ipaq's say the same thing, and the ipaq screens are huge compaired to the AX.

Really? I have a 2215 right next to my X5 and the screens are the same size (within a millimeter, anyway).

I believe the ipaqs with bigger screens are documented at 3.8". I think the X3 is the same as the X5, but I have yet to see one in person.

I think the whole design of the Dell is much more compact. I was in Comp USA the other day and looked at a few other Pocket PC's, and I said the Dell screen is much smaller. When in all actuality they were the same size. Dell's body is smaller.

The 3800, 3900 and 5500 series iPAQ have 3.8 inch screens. The 1900, 2215 and 4100 series have 3.5 inch screens.

i know that they are all 3.5, but that is the diaganal measurement. if you hold up a n ipaq, even the 2200 to an AX, you see it is slightly bigger. it is a very small difference, but it makes a difference to be, esp when reading ebooks or watching moveis. I understand that the Ax smaller, dimmer screen aids batt life, but i personally prefer a bigger screen. Im wondering if someone who held the x5 and x3 side by side noticed any difference

Well, I don't know what you are looking at because, as I said, I have an X5 and a 2215 side by side. Holding them up, it appears as though there is no difference so I pulled out a metric ruler.

The lighted part of screens:
The iPaq - 53.5 X 71mm (89mm diag)
Axim X5 - 54 X 71mm (90mm diag)

The differences are negligable. People are just falling for optical illusions. The borders aroudn the screens of some of the IPAQ's are smaller than the Axims, and that gives the illusion of smaller size.

Since the resolution is the same on all of them, the diagonal measurment MUST make them equal. That is, a 3.5" diagonal on one, or the other, PPC MUST be the same size, because of the fixed resolution. That is, if the diagonal is a certain size, the ratios of the screen dimensions MUST remain the same.

And also, the Axim doesn't have a dimmer screen than the 2200, they are very similar, and in fact the Ax has slightly truer colour. (My friend an I have nothing better to do in lectures than compare PDAs)

I agree with both of the previous two posts. The 'glass size' on the X5 is a couple of mm larger in both directions and the Axim case itself is larger so the screen, in comparison looks smaller but in fact, is not.

IMO, the colors on the X5 are better. The 2215 looks brighter but only because the 'deep colors' are washed out

you may want to clean your glasses off. was just at the store yesterday and held my X3 up next to the 2215. the screens are the exact same size.

well, I guess I am wrong. I know that the Ax has truer color than the HP's, but I still think that their screens may be a bit bigger. For one, I have held 3800 that belongs to my stepfather next to my Ax and it IS bigger. Also, my wife has a toshiba 750 and, while the screen sucks (very yellow) it IS bigger. It has the same resolution as every other ppc on the market. I dont know, but to me, the Ax has one of the smallest screens of any ppc. But it does have the best color. But, maybe I'm falling for the ipaq hype, I dont know. I will say this, regardless, I will never by an Ipaq, not as long as dell keeps making axims

Yeah, the Toshiba 750 and iPaq 3800 both have the 3.8" screens so you are right about them and while 0.3" doesn't sound like much, it would look significant on a device this small. Of course, the X3 would probably need to be larger (more like the X5) to fit the larger screen and that would defeat Dell's apparent goal of making a smaller unit this time out. Maybe their next PPC will have the larger screen?

yeah, i really hope the x7 or x9 includes a larger screen. Its not that big of a deal, but to me, it makes a huge difference.

to me a 2G ROM sounds more important that screen size

BTW, i think the X3 screen size is slightly smaller than X5, though resolution is the same.
