Can some one explain X3i's memory setup?

I'm just wondering if someone can clear something up for me. I recently got a X3i with 64mb rom and 64mb ram.

Now when I go to Settings and look at memory it says my Total main memory is 63.29mb. Now right now this 63.29mb is split to 30.25mb to Storage and 33.04mb to Program.

Now when I look at the Built-in Storage it says I have 34.81mb for that. I'm currently using 30mb of the built-in storage since I do not have a SD card to use (yet).

Now which is my rom and which is the ram? I'm assuming the built-in storage is the rom since there is only 34mb available to me, the rest is taken from Windows installation. But this would mean that I'm using ram as storage, how does that work? Wouldn't the ram be earased when I turn off the X3?

the built-in storage is ROM, the other stuff is RAM. as you said, the rest of the ROM is used by the OS.

the RAM, as described in the memory allocation screen, is used for both the operation of programs as well as user storage. yes, if you store stuff on the RAM, it will be lost if the Axim is shut down.

however, the only way to shut down the axim is to drain or remove both of its batteries. pressing the power button does not turn the unit off, it puts it into sleep mode. all this means is that power is drawn from the batteries to maintain the data in the RAM. with full batteries, the axim can last for weeks in this state before the batteries die, so for all practical purposes, suspend mode is the same as being off.

keep in mind that it also enlarges fullbackup file sizes, so be informed of this, if you keep a backup on the CF card constantly its really not worth it if you have freespace on your CF card, since its actually doubling the size of the files after the backup, i very rarely use the 10mb for anything except temp files, i like to keep that memory clear for memory demanding buffers on high res vids for smoother playback... Just a thought

Beware of the BARCODE!

If you replace the ROM, the storage capacity will likely report differently.

the odd thing is that I have 21.24MB of BIS with WM2003 right now, and I seem to remember having exactly the same amount with PPC2002.

also....what exactly do you mean by " it also enlarges fullbackup file sizes"? do you mean that the BIS gets backed up too? (because it doesn't, unless there is something really bizarre about the X3s...)
