Is everyone who is replying to this thread using MAC filtering? Here is what I am working with;
1. Linksys BEFW11s4-v1 firmware 1.44.2z. Axim X3i with the A00 ROM (09100300EN).
2. Broadcast SSID is enabled, I can't connect if it's disabled-at least it won't after the next time I try and reconnect to my router.
3. I'm using MAC filtering because if I'm broadcasting my SSID I want to be somewhat secure.
4. I started experimenting with WEP to provide more security and that is when I ran into the 128 bit WEP drops (after about 10-20 min), IP lease issues, lock with the red X on the status bar, etc. I swtched to 64 bit WEP and have not had a problem.
5. Tried all of the above with the power save off.
I will experiment with the Beacon Interval with 128 bit WEB and let you all know what happens.
Originally posted by aviationwiz I love my Linksys WRT54G. Linksys overall makes the best networking products around. Thier parent company is Cisco.
LOL, their parent company is now Cisco but the two are far from integrated. Linksys make half decent low end stuff. "Linksys overall makes the best networking products around." could really not be more wrong. CISCO, Nortel and some of the other enterprise vendors make good products. Linksys, Dlink, SMC etc. could only dream of being in the same league.

I'm talking on a home user basis. I could not afford a Cisco router, hub, switch, etc. and neither could many other people. If you can afford that for your home, then more power to you.

great~ my unit is busted
b4, I can connected to my router every 2-3 hours for 20 mins.
now it's not connecting at all :P
hope dell will sent the replace unit soon....
Have you tried a hard reset with NO RESTORE? That's what I do with mine. I have done probably 25 hard resets in the last two weeks, but each time, the wifi has come back.
not to change the topic, but are resets common? I've had my x3i for a week now and haven't had to reset it yet. It's my first PPC, so far everything seems great.
This situation really can't compare with your Jornada since we are talking specifically about wifi. If it weren't for the wifi problems, I would not have had any hard resets so far. Everything else about the x3i works very well.
I tried changing the Beacon Interval from 100 to 10. Now my dad is complaining about no Wifi connectivity at all. I will suggest for him to try a couple higher intervals and maybe that will work.
If I change from 64 bit to 128 bit WEP, I get about 5-10 minutes before I lose the connection. If I stick with 64 bit, It's rock solid. If I play with the beacon interval, that ususally makes it worse, not better. Plus, my laptop with not integrated software has never had a problem. It configures flawlessly to any settings change I make to my router, so I can rule out that element. Maybe there is something to the threads talking about the different ROM versions and how the wireless works better with A01.
Originally posted by G35Guy jmattick, that's great if it were WinXP, but as u know, our handhelds run Win Mobile 2003. The x3i communicates directly with the wireless router, it has nothing to do with what other computers are on the network. The problem should still happen even if you have only a wireless router and the x3i and no other computers. Thanks for the idea, but I think the problem is the firmware on the x3i's built-in wireless card. It's probably fixable by something as simple as adjusting the beacon rate on the router to compensate for the wireless card on the x3i.
I just want to say this, yes, the handheld runs WM 2003, but where does the wireless router get the connection from? The computer, which may or may not be running Windows XP. What I suggested entails that Windows XP makes the wireless router scan for other networks to connect to. This makes the wireless router drop connections, such as the connection to the handheld. And, it has also been proven that some devices interact differently with Wireless Zero Config, but a lot are dropped. This could be why some of problems only occur with the x3i and no other device.
All I am saying, is try disabling the service if you run Windows XP and see if it helps. The system, nor any wireless devices are dependant on Wireless Zero Config, so it is safe. All Wireless Zero Config is is an add-on that works with the software that came with your wireless device...
