I just wanted to tell everyone about my experiences with my X3i. I too get occasional drops. They are much more frequent when the signal is lower. I never get drops from my living room where I get 4 green bars but I get frequent drops from my bedroom where I get 2 yellow bars. A rescan or turning off wifi then turning it back on always solves it for me. I've never had to do a reset, hard or soft, to solve this problem.

I see that the patch is for the X3, does this apply to the X3i as well? It is not clear to my exactly what the patch does/fixes. Has anyone tried this patch on their X3i? What was the result?

Thats funny.. This patch is for localization/language updates only:
"Dell AXIM X3 Drivers Patch (112403) This patch contains the localization update of Wireless Lan driver UI/help files for following languages: German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese"

there are two different patches. that is the one for the language update. the other one restricts certain channels for the wifi antenna.
i am using a d-link di-614+ along with the motorola cable modem and have had no trouble. the cable modem was added today, but even before that was added i still never got dropped in my home network using this router. my WEP is set to 64bit.
had anyone tried changing the settings on their X3i to give more performance, but less battery life? that might be the problem.
There are actually 3 patches. One takes care of battery problems, and a few other things. Here is the link from Dell Community Forum.
All X3 USERS,
Here is the latest rom update for the AXIM X3.The fixes include:
1. Backup battery driver status update issue, which may cause long backup battery charging time. 2. Codec relative drivers problem, which may conflit and cause system lockup. 3. Serial Port driver issue, which cause serial keyboard detection sometimes failed. 4. Enhanced display performance by optimizing the display driver. 5. USB file transfering issues, which may cause file transfer fails.

I just got my X3i about 1.5weeks ago (loving iti). And I haven't noticed any of the problems that I've read about on here (i.e. wi-fi dropping out, locking up, slow wi-fi connecting, etc etc).
Having said that, I'm still curious if it the new ROM update will make a difference (optimized display driver wouldn't hurt?). Is it possible to back up my current ROM, so that I can have a backup in case I want to go back to it? TIA
I got my X3i replacement a few days ago, and it is worse than the first one!!! Last night, I connected for less than 5 minutes before seeing the dreaded padlock and 169....IP number!!! This is extremely frustrating and now I'm not so sure what part my router plays in all of this since it's the same one as before.:rolling:
