HELP! - my x3i won't sync wirelessly!
Just got my x3i up and running yesterday but I am an absolute beginner and I would really appreciate some help with being able to sync wirelessly. Try as I might I'm feeling more and more like I'm clutching at straws....my x3i appears to be able to see my wireless access point and router but when I try to sync wirelessly or browse the net I have no success! I could well have the wrong setting on my axim or my pc but i'm not confident enough to know for sure. Please help to recover my sanity!

To get wireless AS going you must first make sure that you have an active partnership with AS on your desktop and you have successfully sync'ed via the cradle. The rest of the setup is on the Ax.
Goto Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks. Make sure that you have "My Work Network" selected for both drop downs. Now open AS on you Ax. Goto Tools -> Options. Make sure that your drop down has your desktop name selected. Also make sure that "Sync with this PC during manual sync" is checked. Hit the options button. If you want to maintain your AS connection, select "Maintain connection". If you only want it to sync and then drop the connection, select "Disconnect when done". You should now be able to tap the Sync button in AS on your Ax to start the sync process. Depending on your WiFi connection, this could be slow or you could drop connection if your signal is weak. As long as you can see your desktop via wireless you should be all set.
This is based on if you are using a AP or a WiFi router. If your AP or WiFi router supports DHCP then make sure that it is turned on and you are using DHCP. Otherwise you will have to assign a static IP to your Ax.

For what it's worth, I've been trying to get mine to synch wirelessly from the time I received it -- about 2 months ago. Despite receiving many, many suggestions, none worked. I've just about given up -- and almost always synch via infrared.

If your using XP make sure you don't have the firewall enabled. This stopped me from syncing until I opened the correct ports.
I'm not at home right now but when I get there I can post the ports you'll need to open.

From what happened to me...
try disabling your wireless router's WEP code at first..
then it should work.
Then restore the WEP and manually type out on your pda

I followed whitelyt's instructions & it worked Great on the first try. In fact, wondering if I should return my cradle.

Every company has their own software for configuring the router so you'll either need to pull out the instruction manual or post the brand/model here to get that kind of help.
To get you started, most likely, you'll be able to go into the setup utility through the web browser on your PC by typing the IP address for your router. The actual address varies by brand: for most Linksys, the IP is 192.168.1.1; for Netgear and D-Link, 192.168.0.1; Belkin, 192.168.2.1; Siemens, 192.168.254.254; etc. Once into the setup, you'll need to find the security settings and select 'none.'
