WiFi Help!

I am a new Axim X3i owner and I think I am having problems with my WiFi web browsing. My question is, how fast should internet browsing be with a strong WiFi connection through my residential cable modem and Netgear MR814 Access Point / Router?

My desktop computer is hooked up via Ethernet cable to the router and is as fast as lightning, but my Axim seems to be slow as Christmas. I can actually take up to 2 minutes to find and load a web page when I click on one in my Favorites folder. This seems ridiculous for any computer, big or small, that has an 11 Mbps connection and a 400 MHz processor.

Are there any settings I need to change on my Axim or on my Netgear Access Point / Router?

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

-James

it takes me a little bit longer to load a page on the axim than on my computer, but it's never took more than 2 minutes.

Expect the pages to render more slowly on your PPC than your desktop. Since your desktop is most likely running more than 400MHz and much more RAM pages will render faster plus you are wired connected where depending on your ethernet card you are connected to your router at either 10MB/sec or 100MB/sec consistently.

Even though 802.11B advertises that it can achieve speeds up to 11MB/sec but most of the time you are not really running at 11MB/sec from my experience. However, it does not take me 2 minutes to get a web page on my PPC.

Well, I expect it to be slower, but this is ridiculously slow.
If anyone knows what I can change to speed this up, please let me know. Thanks.

your guess is as good as mine. Google didn't have much to offer on the saying. I have no idea as to its origin.

what kind of sites are you going to...ppc friendly, or just any site you would normally view on your desktop. Anything that is formatted for a handheld device comes right up on my X3i, but some of the regular sites can take a little while longer depending on how much extra "stuff" is on the homepage....but certainly not 2 minutes longer, so you may have a problem

some are random sites, some are PPC friendly. It's very irregular as to how long it takes. Sometimes it will load a site in under 20 seconds, sometimes it will take 60-90 seconds.

Does it matter what channel I have my access point set to. Could interference from other access points and or other equipment cause it to be slow?

The status screen always shows either a 93% or a 100% signal strength and 11Mbps speed.

It works, it's just that I am really disapointed by the speed. My old 56K modem was much faster in 1999 than this sucker with a WiFi connection. And again, my desktop, which is hooked up to the same access point/router vie ethernet, is fast as lightning.

If you had to compare it to a 56K modem, would you say that it is faster or slower?

Remember when you were a little kid, presents would start piling up under the tree and the closer Christmas got.....the longer it seemed to take to get here?

Sloooooooooooow as Christmas (getting here).
