battery life

charged it for at least 8 hours last night (it was the first time i charged it cuz i just got it yesterday).....played around with it for about a total of maybe 2 hours n its already down to 60%.....is that good??......also should i wait till the battery dies completely b4 i charge again or can i just charge at any time? which do you prefer?

that is normal, lithium-ion batteries can be charge at anytime, they have no memory. They like to be kept charged as much as possible even through i don't do it with mine. 80% of the time i end up letting my battery drain to 14% before charging. Should charge whenever u get a chance.

That practice is significantly shortening the lifespan of your battery.

As you said......LiIon Batteries live longest and are happiest when kept fully charged as often and as long as possible. You CANNOT overcharge a LiIon Battery....the battery itself has circuitry in it to prevent this from happening.



Here's some LiIon Battery Information:

All Consumer LiIon batteries (other than coin-type) have circuitry in the battery itself, to prevent overcharging under any circumstances.

LiIon batteries are actually quite dangerous commodities and the only way they were allowed into the Consumer market was to include this circuitry.

The charge cannot be terminated on a voltage (Which is what the Axim's green light is indicating). The capacity reached at 4.2 Volts per cell is only 40 to 70% of full capacity. For this reason you need to continue to charge until the current drops, and to terminate on the low current. (Which is what the Battery's Sensing Circuitry is sensing, and then doing).

It is important to note that trickle charging is not acceptable for lithium batteries. The Li-ion chemistry cannot accept an overcharge without causing damage to the cell, possibly plating out lithium metal and becoming hazardous.

I know it lowers my battery life in the long run but I have my x3i on 24/7 and there is no way i can keep putting it on the charger but i do put it on when can. I need to get a 1800mah one anyways so this will gives me one once it dies :-P
