After the ROM update, and the AS update, when I rebooted my work PC, the IT guys had set up an Office XP push to my machine. So after the many minutes of waiting, I got back in, and found out that for some reason now I can not resolve several e-mails in my Inbox to my x3i.
All of these mails have either attachments or have imbedded graphics in them, which is the only common thread I can seem to find in them. Its not a real big deal, but irritating, and the little red ! is starting to bug me. Anyone have similar issues and was able to resolve the mail with Office XP?

I've used both Outlook 2002 (XP) and Outlook 2003 and had no sync problems. They both appear to be completely compatible with Active Sync and Windows Mobile 2003. I'm not sure when you have embedded graphics in an email if they will carry over though, it would really depend on size, your settings and the type of graphics.

I had a simillar problem when I first got my X5. I messed with some Outlook and ActiveSync settings and finally got it to work. Unfortunally, I don't remember exactly what I did.
You could try talking to your IT guys, or maybe even call Dell.

Dammit. I just hard reset my 4150 and I have this problem now with Office2k. Any email with an attachment won't sync, even though I told it not to sync attachments.
Did you find a fix? | |||||||

No, Howard, as of today, I have not.....I'm still at a loss for why this is happening.

Any idea what build of AS you've been using?

I recently upgraded to the new version 3.7.1 build 4034, prior to that it was the same version, with the 3000 series build.
I'm having a hard time nailing down the issue, since I had only intended to upgrade AS, and got both the Office XP and AS updates at the same time. I've canvased the MS website for a possible fix, but the 2 workarounds they suggested didn't fix my problem.

I just did a hard reset, no restore and installed nothing. Hard reset, sync and STILL the same problem. At least I know that it's on my PC somewhere, not on the PPC.

Howard...
Before reconnecting after your hard reset Remove Active Sync from your computer Make sure you delete all temp files All .tmp files Delete everything in the following directories: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft (make sure data is backed up) C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync Also make sure you get rid of all the temp files under your profile for windows (I believe it is c:\documents and settings\%username%\local settings\temp) After this you can reboot and reinstall ActiveSync clean and then connect your PDA. My theory is that there are some log files that get written to that go corrupt but I have no idea which ones do it so the best option is to get rid of them all. Like I said, make sure you have a backup of your data somewhere before you do this, you will lose some of it if you don't.

Fixed...
And I think here is what did it. I did remove AS and I was planning on what you just wrote, in addition to combing through the registry. But after my hard reset Ipaq was still giving me the problem I restored from backup so went back to my previous "install". Still broken but at least I had all my data. I was running initially 3.7.1(2) and went back to 3.7.1(1) so that's where I was. Broken Ipaq, all my data and 3.7.1(1). I upgraded to 3.7.1(2) again. Still broken. So I went and told it not to sync File Attachments and then re-enabled them and somehow this fixed it. I don't know why and I was pretty methodological as I went along. So I'm not sure that this DID fix it but I don't see what else it could have been. Now running 3.7.1(2) and can sync attachments. Strange.

Corrupt attachment or corrupt entry in sync log for attachments probably...
It has to be something with some sort of log file... If it makes a connection and eventually fails it has to be reading something and having problems

Next time it fails take a look at this file:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp\wcesmgr.log It lists everything that happens during synchronization, might give some clues as to what has happened. I'd be interested to know myself, I may run into the problem at some point too.

Still no luck for me. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling the old build of AS, still no luck. Turned attachments off/on again, no luck.....
I looked for the wcesmgr.log file on my hard disk, said no file found. I have no "local settings" folder either, or application data file for that matter. I'm very frustrated with this stuff at this point, having now wasted 5 hours or so on 2 different days over this issue......phooey to MS!
