x3i and cell phone

Hopefully not too stupid of a question. I just got a sprint pcs cell phone with web access. Is there a way(using a cable of course) to surf the net on the axim while connected to the phone? How would it be done? Thanks!

See if these guys have a cable to connect your Ax to your phone. They also have directions on how to do it.

Good Luck! There have been several threads on this topic that show how doable this is.

Thanks for the response. That site says their Samsung cable is not compatible with my VGA1000 Samsung phone. Guess I'll keep looking.

Merlin
Don't know much about Samsung 'phones, does yours have an Infrared pot like the Nokia?
If so, you can connect using the IR port.

No IR port. Also, learned that the Axim and Samsung VGA1000 phone both act as usb clients(not serial, or usb host). What that means is that the cable must make it look like there is a host between them(like a pc would). thesupplynet.com makes cables that do this for $80. Also learned that Sprint is not too happy with people using their phones to connect pda's or laptops to the net and may cancel their PCS Vision service if they find out. Someone on another site actually put the small print of a contract on and that's what it said. Interesting!

why on earth would they not want you to do that? surely you pay more the more you use it? so surely they'd actively want you to connect it to anything you could find??

Aaah I see... I guess it kinda makes sense then. Here (UK) they charge you an arm and a leg for internet access so they're more than happy for you to connect it to anything, especially something that can download nice big full graphics websites like a laptop or a PDA. Lots of transfer - lots of cash for them, at UKŁ3 per MB (on my plan).

Cables are avaialble for creating your cell phone as a modem, however only works with analog phones, I purchased a new phone (Samsung) Verizon is my provider and the quality of the service is great (digital) no cables are currently avalable for digital service

That's not correct - it depends on your phone handset, there's plenty of digital phones that use the cables - or IR ports - to act as modems. I'm so certain of this 'cause there are no analog cell phone networks left in the UK :D

Just quoing what I was told by both cable manufacturers I would love to be wrong as I would like a cable, e-mail them and see what they tell you

my nokia 8390 has an IR port. would it have to be analog in order for me to use it to connect to a standard dialup account?
