Screw Windows Media Encoder, there is a new kid on the block!!!

If you love using streaming technology as much as i do then you are going to want to try this. The program is called Beyond TV v3.4 and it is made to be a PVR/DVR for your PC but it also has network abilities to be able to stream your captured shows to another PCs or PDAs. It also has the ability to stream live tv to another PCs or PDAs and have the ability to change the channel from the remote PDA or PC!!! Thats the thing WME sucked on, you had to keep the same station on until you come back to your PC and change it, not no more. Beyond TV also allows you to be away from home and set a time to record a program or watch one that has taped. Pretty coo huh?

So far a give it a 5 out of 5 stars because i haven't found one thing to complain about it, has done everything perfectly. It even seems to stream better then WME.

Here is a video of me playing around with Beyond TV on my x3i as i watch one of my taped shows and change stations as i watch live tv from it :) Sorry about video quality of capture, had to make file size small.

Go Here and click on the X31ibeyondtv link at the bottom of the list to download the video

Have Fun and Enjoy!!!

It definately does a lot of stuff, but for $60, I think I'll stick with windows media, it is free afterall.

Hehe

Not for much longer if the EU has its way! Bundled software from Microsoft could well be a thing of the past.

HighTymes,

I tried it out this morning and had a hard time getting the streaming configured...which is the only reason I'd be interested considering I have MCE 2004 which is as good as it gets as far as pvr goes on the computer.......Come to find out, my tuner card (Hauppauge 250MCE) isn't compatible with live tv streaming......btw, when you view your content on your axim, is the live tv automatically available when you login to port 3129 (or whatever the admin port is)........in other words, do you not have to type in your ip address:8080? Also, do you know of a way to stream using MCE 2004? thanks

When i log into the stream server on my x3i it takes me to watch shows(shows i have recorded already). There is a link on the top middle that i can click on and it will open WMP automactically and connected to the live tv stream.

To access the stream server on my x3i i have to type in http://mypcname:8129.

Sent you PM

I have a old radeon 7500. I have a seperate TV tuner card that i have no clue what is, came with PC. I have tried this software of earlier versions but it never worked with my tuner card until now.

These are the settings i have on my Beyond TV...

Recording Preferences:
-recording format: Windows Media(this way i can stream the recorded shows, with Mpeg2 to have to download the download to watch it).
-Default quality: cable/dsl medium

Under Advanced Settings-

Stream Server Settings:
-Stream quality: cable/dsl medium
-stream server enabled: yes
-Prerecorded show port: 1755(have my router let incoming requires for that port goto 192.168.1.100)
-Live TV stream port: 8880(have my router let incoming requires for that port goto 192.168.1.100)
-Force TCP streaming: force

Player settings:
-Preferred Mpeg2 decoder- default
-De-interlace mode- hardware

Let me know if you want me to check up on one of my settings you might be thinkin is causing a problem.

Are you using port 8880 for live streams or 8080? Also, I think port 8129 uses TCP incoming and outgoing, 1775 uses TCP incoming and outgoing, and then 8080 uses UDP incoming and outgoing unless you force TCP.....Is this correct?

I am using 8880 because that is the port i already had opened in my firewall for my X3i ftp server.

I just opened both UDP and TCP for all the ports in the program just to be sure.

Were you able to get on my beyond tv server?

No, I didn't try......I wish I could get live tv to stream but I just don't think it's going to work with my tuner card....Are you able to view live tv when you access port 8129 on a regular computer? When I access it via my Axim, it jumps right to the "watch" menu and doesn't let me do anything else......Does the live tv option you speak of at the top of the screen just show up automatically?

Ya i can watch it on my PC from there. On a ppc you go directly to the watch menu but right above your shows that are recorder there is a link to see live tv. If you are trying to access live tv from my server then i don't think it is possible on the setting i have the guest account restricted to. There are 3 settings for creating a account for peole to access your stuff. One is Admin, who has total control over everything. Second is Register, which i would assume has rights to view my shows and watch live tv. Last one is View Only, which only seems like it lets you view my shows and NO live tv.

I will make a registered account for you right now to access and see if the live tv is there.

Also worth noting, when you sign in you will see a page come up and then disappear and come up with the watch page. If you stop the page loading before the watch page has time to kick in then you can access all the other stuff the pc version has.

Ok........what's your server and the login info? I will take a look.....You can e-mail the info if you'd prefer to jeffbasnett@msn.com........I never thought of setting up different users....I think it would be cool to share our recorded shows, etc.....I recorded the President's speech tonight and did the "squeeze" conversion.......I then watched it back while taking out the trash.....now, only if I could get live tv to stream......
