Changing blue Dell start-up screen

I must be searching on the wrong words because I'm sure it has been discussed before. How do you change the blue Dell startup screen that appears after a soft-reset? I'd like to use something different.

Thanks,
Brian

It was discussed a couple of weeks ago, I remember, but I don't think anyone managed to come up with a way of changing it... it's hard coded into the ROM, I believe.

I would imagine (if I'm remembering correctly that you're looking to buy loads of these devices) that Dell would do you a custom ROM image with the image changed, if you asked nicely :)

Good idea on contacting dell and good memory! I did end up finding a discussion from a few weeks back and located boot.bmp. Must be something in the rom as you suggest.

I wouldn't change it, you may run into more problems.

Haha, good love hacking. Always somebody out there that's going to want control of even the blue startup screen. :)

Good luck and if you find a way, make sure you let us know!

The Dell bootlogo can be changed by flashing in a modified ROM, I currently have a custom logo on my X30 Mid which has not caused any problems so far.

Be aware that it is a fairly involved process and there is an element of risk. At worst your PDA will be bricked and cannot be recovered by any means except by flashing via JTAG (has anyone traced the JTAG port on the X3/X30?).

If you have not been put off by the above then feel free to bug me for a tutorial, as long as the Mods have no objections to such information being posted that is.

UPDATE: Tutorial for the X30 is here.

Wow, OddbOd! Nice work. If the mods approve you posting your tutorial, I'd love to take a look at it. (Not that I'd do it (voids warranty), but it would be nice to check out anyway). :approve:

Why would anyone want to change this screen ? It only shows for about four seconds.

what is the SplashV.exe and splashV.dat in \windows dir? didn't do anything when i ran it. maybe you can just 'overwrite' these files instead of hacking into the rom or something?

You tell me what they are, as they don't appear in an unmodified A05 ROM. Several people had already tried "simple" hacks to change the bootlogo without success, I am absolutely certain that the only way to change it is by modifying the ROM file itself.
