Newb Q's - What's the difference btwn "streaming" and "playing"...

Actually, I'm not sure what's the other word would be.

Anyway, if I share my mp3 folder on my PC, and using Resco to get there, and play the music that are stored there, am I correct by saying that I am "streaming"?

It's play pretty good, in fact I can even watch movie stored in my HD with no problem. So, by doing this, am I "streaming"?

Oh, and if that's not streaming, how do I stream?

Thanks in advance...

that isnt streaming, what you are doing is the same effect as if you opened a file stored on your ppc itself.

Streaming is playing a file that is being broadcast.

Windows media Encoder can do that for you so u can stream music and movies, but if someone needs to use the computer, opening the file using resco is alot less processor needy so the user doesnt notice a slow down. Do a search for it on the forums, youll fins how-to links and lots of sugegstions by ppl

Typically streaming is broadcasting at a pre-defined "quality" level (ie bitrate) while just opening the file with Resco is just that, opening the file with Resco.

Typically when you stream you take an audio (or av) feed, re-encode it to suit the target audience and then deliver it over a consistent data stream.

Opening the file is where you Axim says to the PC "Give me all the file, now, as fast as I can handle in whatever format it is".
