Attention required! - contacts, calendar, tasks, notes wont' sync!!
HELP!!! I have searched the net trying to find a resolution to the above problem and so far have:
1. upgraded from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2002
2. reinstalled ActiveSync 3.7
3. tried to establish a new partnership but that is confounding me
4. went to the Microsoft site for help to no avail (I tried their
suggestions to "Update Collaboration Data Objects" and failing
that to extract a copy of Mapi32.dll to the Windows\System32
folder)
Nothing has made any difference. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is very frustrating. Thanks.
I would completely uninstall Activesync and install version 3.7.1. Make sure it is installed BEFORE you put your Axim in the cradle to sync. If you are still getting this error, go to Tools -- Options -- and uncheck all the items to be synced. See if you are able to establish a connection that way first. If yes, add each item step by step.
Also, have you tried doing a soft reset on your Axim or rebooting your PC?
I have soft reset so many times that I've lost count. I have also rebooted my computer more than once. I downloaded ActiveSync 3.7.1 today so I will try that. I'll let you know how it went. Thanks.
I upgraded to 3.7.1, did a soft reset and deselected all but one of the items to be synched... same problem. I want to know how to delete the partnership from my Axim so that I can try establishing a new partnership with a new name. Whenever I have deleted the partnership from my ActiveSync on my computer it is still there on my Axim. I don't know if this is contributing to the problem.
To delete your partnerships, disconnect your Axim from PC (remove it from cradle). Double-click the Activesync icon in the lower right corner of PC. Now, click File - Delete Partnership. You can remove all partnerships you've established.
I think the partnership you are referring to on your Axim is the name of the device. Turn on your Axim, go to Settings - About - Device ID. Rename your device and it will show up as the new name when you establish a partnership with your PC.
I just realized that I am in the X3 forum when I should have been in the X5. Does that make any kind of difference as far as my problem goes?
I took deft's advice and changed the name of the partnership on the X5 but the problem still persists. I also have a program called SecondScreen TV that used to sync as well and that doesn't work anymore as well.
Holly,
Assuming you are using Windows XP on your PC, can you explore files on your Mobile Device by going through Start-My Computer-Mobile Device?
Also, I remember when I was using my X5 that if I didn't securely seat my Ax in the cradle it would never sync. It would charge, but it wasn't making a complete contact. I actually had to push down on it to ensure I established the connection.
This may or may not make a difference, but when you open activesync on your pc, click File - Connection settings, is the box checked to allow USB connection to this computer? I have all 4 of the boxes checked.
If you have a sync cable you may try that. Could be your cradle is not working properly.
I checked all 4 boxes and still am getting Attention Required. The SecondScreen TV program is back to working but I think that was because I neglectedt to change a setting that I was supposed to.
A few weeks ago I started to get some error messages (something to the effect of not being able to find an English file and something about a zip file) on my computer after installing a program for making internet calls called "Firefly". I also noticed recently that whenever I went online, my Norton Live Update was not updating my virus definitions (everything that was supposed to be checked etc. was checked, but Live Update was telling me that there was nothing on my computer to update - "LU 1805. There are no products on this machine that can be updated by Live Update").
I wondered whether or not "Firefly" was the reason I was getting the error messages as well as causing the Live Update to malfunction. I uninstalled "Firefly" and according to instructions for dealing with the error message I changed the name of a file called oleaut32.dll to oleaut32.old and installed a new copy of oleaut32.dll.
After that was done my Live Update went back to normal and to my shock when I attached my Axim X5 all of the Attention Required messages disappeared and I was prompted to synchronize the previously unsynchronized items.
I hope that this information can help someone with the same problem.
