best 512mb SD card
I'm ready to buy a 512mb SD card for my new x3i.

I appreciate any feedback on best brands, best place to shop and how much is too much to pay.

Thanks!

Have you looked at Happycheesecake's SD Guide here? Basically, avoid Sandisk and choose cards made in Japan. However, there are always exceptions and there have been improvements on Sandisk compatibility. One other thing to note is that Sandisk has good customer service and will easily replace a faulty card.

As for best place to shop, check out the Memory Bargains forums.

Panasonic is generally regarded as the best but it is also usually the most expensive.

I am planning to buy a 1GIG SD Card. Does anyone have any problems with the size of the card besides the manufacturers? For example anything over 256M on SD works sluggish or works just as good?

Because I just got haicom gps and that will require me to remove my CF card when I am outside, and I must get SD card and I really want to get the largest I can get. I see that sandisk has two different models, one is ULTRA II and other one is regular, i wonder if they both have issues with Axim?

Thanks~!

ULTRA II is the high-speed version of the Sandisk product line for SD cards, the regular is just the regular. In regards to sandisks, I have had problems with my Tungsten E and Tungsten W Palm OSes, but no issues with dell ppcs whatsoever. But now I am currently using Lexar/Panasonic brand cards (i have a lexar 128 and 256 right now) and they both works very fast and fine foe me

I was planning to buy one lexar or panasonic from retail (bestbuy or circuit city) but they dont carry the 1GIG or 512MB versions.. hmm

I thought the ultra's and high speed cards did not make any difference on Axim's or PPCs for that matter..

gotta check others.

thanks!

for a ppc you will probably not see a difference in performance between a standard card an one of the ultra cards. you would see the difference with a high performance camera as the ultra cards have a much better write speed, allowing more pictures to be taken in less time. this is crucial for pro photographers.

not worth the extra money for ppc use.

while we are talking about memory, I just received my 256 mb sd card from Kingston. My question is, which i couldnt find a thread to answer is, how do you place certain programs (e.g., pocket informant) onto the sd card in order to free up hard drive space? Any direction is appreciated.

Thanks

You could use file explorer to transfer the files from your pc to the SD card (when it is in the axim). Of course it would be much faster to get a usb card reader.

If you are talking about moving files already on your axim to the SD card you can do that in file explorer. Just cut and paste them to the Storage Card.

Note, that is for moving files, not programs. For programs you should install them directly onto the card when it is in the axim. Don't cut and paste folders for programs as not all the files installed are in the native folder. Some get put in other folders and you may not be aware of what files they are. Best to uninstall the program and reinstall it on the SD card.
