Exclamation MSN Messenger Login Problems (NOT A PATCH PROBLEM..i think)

Hrrm... I updated my ROM, and then restored all my files back to my PPC. Ever since, I have the strangest problem. I downloaded and installed the MSN Messenger Update Patch again on the PPC. However, everytime I try to login, I get an error message:

"Logon to MSN Messenger Service failed because the password is incorrect or the logon name does not exist.....blah blah blah"

This is truly bizarre because my user name is correct as is my password. It works fine on my laptop, so why doesn't it work on my Axim? Before, I updated my ROM, it was working fine...wtf is going on?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

When I upgraded to the A02 ROM version, I did not apply the messenger update, as I figured the A02 update would include all the previous WM 2003 updates. I've had no problem logging into Messenger since upgrading. Maybe try hard resetting and not applying the messenger update.

Yeah, you shouldn't need the update... also, some people have problems all over the place when restoring from a backup over the new ROM - it's better to re-install all your software and sync your data again using activesync, rather than restoring from a backup... it's possible that the new ROM version of the MSN has been superceded by the older version from the backup / patch...

The only other possibility is if your time/date is wildly incorrect MSN has trouble connecting, so I've read - check that you've got that set right...

I agree sheepy. The upgrade instructions indicate that you can restore a backup over the new ROM, but I am a little sheepish about that (no pun intended ;-) .

It's best to start from scratch and not to apply any previous patches for the X3.

Yeah, I had dreadful problems when I restored a backup over my A01 after that upgrade - much better when I started from scratch again.

I had the same problem but as it turns out I was already connected with my desktop - when I logged out on desktop, everything was fine. - give it a shot.
Failure is not an option - - it`s built into the software

Hey guys. Thanks for all the help. I'm a bit loathe to hard reset and start from scratch, but I might do it 'cos this MSN thing is really annoying me. I also tried uninstalling the patch, now the damn MSN Messenger won't even open. ah well...

I'm always loathe to rebuild my Axim from scratch, but we got to do what we got to do! When you hard reset, just make sure you don't apply any of the previous WM 2003 patches, and you should be just fine.

This is really strange. I tried uninstalling the update patch, and I get the same problem you have; tapping the icon does nothing. So, i reinstalled the patch through activesync, uninstalled it, reinstalled manualy, etc a few times. Still doesn't work. Now, to top it off, Hotmail doesn't work either. I now believe it's a problem with the Axim and .NET service as when i try to login in to Hotmail, PIE pops up the little "THE PAGE CANNOT BE LOCATED" dialog. Now, this only ever should happen when there is no internet connection and you try and access a page. The internet is working fine however, as I managed to browse other sites before that and read new forums, etc.

So, now I have a double problem. No MSN Messenger, and no Hotmail. The people at MSN are monkeys...ask them a question and they tell you they can't answer it and advise you to e-mail a different branch of their tech support.

Seems I might have to Hard reset my Ax now.....damn damn damn

....unless someone else knows something I don't?

Let me clarify. Hotmail didn't work before i uninstalled teh patch. Everything went pear shaped after I updated my ROM....why did i ever do it?! MSN and Hotmail worked before the ROM update, but not after.

at least someone else is in this boat too, i'd like to get to the bottom of this!

I was thinking, is there any program out there that you can use to log into MSN messenger with out using the M$ version...if you remember "Trillian" that let you log into multiple messenger applications in one app. A pocket pc version would be a decent substitute considering the problems we're having

hard reset and don't restore from a pre-A01 backup is my advice... i had serious problems with all sorts of things due to restoring a backup after a ROM update -- much like the problems you're having now.

I'd be fairly sure that if you do that, all the problems will go away. It doesn't actually take that long to re-install software.
