on/off button question

i'm sure this will sound like a stupid question... but .. here goes anyway.. does the on/off button really shut the unit down or just make the screen turn off ? Also i'm surprised their isn't a start/shutdown menu system... or is there ??

if none of this makes any sense i apologise its early and i'm work :(

Actually, the power button can do both :) If you keep the power button pressed for a bit longer, it will dim the screen. Doing the same thing again will lighten it up. In order to turn off the device, just tap the power button quickly.

This is the default behavior anyway. You can disable the dim functionality through the checkbox "light/dim screen using power button" in the "Brightness" settings ...

(Once my X30 also got into a state where the power button would only dim the screen even though this option was disabled. Don't know where this came from, but after a hard reset this problem was gone.)

Forgot to mention ... there is no built-in shutdown function on the X30, but there is a great freeware program called "XP Shutdown" which adds this functionality. You can find it in the download section on Aximsite. I have a shortcut to it on the Today screen and it's a very handy thing to have ...

Truth-be-told, PPCs are never OFF. The Power Button just shuts off the screen (or dims it if you press&hold).

Programs not completely turned off with Switcher (or a 3rd party app) continue to run and eat up your battery. Even with everything really turned off, it's still not truly off, it will use a minimal amount of power to keep the RAM "alive" so that you have no boot process (ie; Instant On).
