One thing that I noticed that may or may not have any bearing: When I got my Axim and turned it on in my apartment building it located 4 or 5 networks. Mine went through the same bit of searching through all of the channels and would latch on to someone else's network on a different channel. But ... I realized that both of us were using the same network name (linksys - the default for a linksys wireless router). So it seemed that mine just latched on to one of them and wouldn't consider mine. My problem was fixed by giving my network a unique name.

I agree that I believe that it is actually searching ALL channels but you are only seeing a few.Just a problem with your settings somehwheres and it will find the correct channel upon connect.
If you have problems with the channel you have selected ,it is more likely interference from something else microwave.Try different channels until you get the strongest signal without interference.

The Dell WLAN utility appears to have difficulty scanning on more than one channel once it has had a previous access point lock. I have a WEP enabled network running through a Dell TrueMobile Wireless Router.. yes, how ironic that the Dell WLAN utility could not find the Dell Router.

I switched over to the Odyssey client and bam, instantly found my router and connected.
