X30h download speed and writing speed

I noticed on my X30h that copying a 4mb file from the built in storage to my sd card takes about 2 minutes but to do it from the storage card to the built in storage takes about 5 seconds. Is this normal? Also, I notice even with a wifi connection hooked up to a T1 line with no one else on it I still only get around 56k downloading abilities. I realized it when I downloaded a 30 mb movie file and it took my X30h around 9 minutes. I've used Silent Knight's power management program to toggle off the power management. Is there anything else I can do to make it go faster or is this typical of the X30's capabilities?

Downloads to main memory are much, much faster than they are to SD, as SD is slow by default. Also, even though the Axim has an 802.11b card, you're not going to get near 11 Mbps, if I get 1.1, its a good day.

Thank you very much wooch06. I don't know why I didn't try this before but I transfered a 4mb file from my built in memory to another place on my built in memory and it took about 2 seconds. I don't know why I didn't do that before and I forgot that the sd has a slower write speed than a read speed and thats why the numbers confused me a bit as to why it was slow to transfer from built in storage to my sd card but was faster going from sd to built in storage. Thank you very much for your help. Although, is the 56 kb/s downloading from wifi to my built in storage still on par? Because I thought for sure that if the bandwidth was sufficient enough that I would get around 1 mb/s downloading on my X30h instead of 56 kb/s?

Look at it like this, when you download to main memory, your actually downloading it into RAM, and there's no "writing" involved. When you download to the SD card, there's writing, and its very slow. Also, remember, when you're downloading to SD, the bandwidth gets backed up because its waiting for the data to "write". In essence, it bottlenecks. So, it might report a slower speed because its being held up. The best way to gague speed of wireless transfer is when your saving to main memory. That is a more accurate report of your actual throughput.

Finally, the Built-in storage is about as slow as or even slower than the SD card, because it's being written to a writable ROM.

Downloading a internet page like yahoo goes quickly. It takes about 1 second for me to fully download it. In that aspect the X30h is great. And thank you very much wooch06 for the explaination. I'll test out downloading to my main memory.

Exactly ;), because its going into Main Memory, and the pages are being cached there as well. I changed my Avant Go and PIE cache to SD card a while back, and ended up putting them back into main memory because it was painfully slow. Now, I just install apps on my SD card, and cache stuff that's written to main memory. It reads from the SD card much faster that it writes. This, launching an app from SD take a lot less time than writing to SD!!

Dear Lord, it it was five minutes, I'd have sent my Axim back inf Feb. LOL :)!! For non PPC formated web pages, it takes longer, because it has to download all the graphics and images. If I need to browse normal web pages with my Axim, I use Net Front 3.1. It's a fully featured browser for the Pocket PC. It's pricey, but worth it if you're going to be browsing pages not formatted to the pocket PC!

It sounds like your write speed on your SD card sucks but the read speed is good. This would explain why downloading/writing stuff to your SD takes so long. I get around 3.2Mb/sec speed with my wifi on my X30 High. My SD card reads at 17Mb/sec and my BIS reads at 44Mb/sec. I am not sure what the write speeds are but they are just alittle bit slower.

I went with the kingston 512 mb card because I heard soooo much bad things about sandisk. Maybe what I should have done was to get the high speed sd card. I agree with you HighTymes my read speed is fine. It is just the write speed that completely and utterly sucks.
