Mad Soft reset turned into a hard reset ! ! !

Hi,

I have experienced the worse problem this morning: I tried to do a soft reset but it actually did a hard reset ! ( and no, I did not touch the power button....)

Did anyone of you experience this already ?
I think i can restore some settings but not all of it. Beside, can this happen again ?
It this case, I want to return the AXIM to DELL, but how should I explain this problem to DELL ?

Yes, this has happened myself and to many others. And yes, it could happen again. However, I don't think it's a Dell-specific problem. It could happen to any Pocket PC running Windows CE.

BTW, Welcome to Aximsite! :D

Is this true ? How frequently could this happen ?

I was just ready installing TOMTOM and a Rikaline GPS receiver for my next travel to Norway... but now I will need an alternative when the pocket PC fails again. In that case I can still use my old Garmin GPS III Plus with my old laptop (NT 4.0).

BTW, does anyone know about a driver for NT 4.0 that can emulate the USB connection to the craddle ? I will create a new post for this...

Ciao,

René

I think it tends to be related to a software conflict, but that is just based on my personal experience. It has only happened to me once, and I have owned a Pocket PC for over a year. Just make sure you have up-to-date backups and you should be ok. BTW, Sprite Backup is a highly recommended backup utility. It allows you to restore off of a self-executing file and has many more features than what you get from the Backup Utility on your Axim and from the utility on ActiveSync.

This is more of a Windows issue than a Dell AXim issue. a friend of mine with an hp handheld had the same thing heppen to him. My advice is to buy a small Memory card dedicated to being a backup and do frequent backups. It's only happened to me once, but unfortunately, I hadn't backed up recently.
