Reinstall everything to upgrade?

I see that there is an update on dell's download page called "Dell Axim X3 System Update Utility for Windows Mobile 2003". Currently I have ROM A00 so I was planning on installing the update. However, after making a ROM backup and about to install the new ROM, it says that all the data will be deleted. Is this for real? To upgrade the ROM, I will have to re-install all my programs, put back all my data, etc??? If so, that's unbelievable... is it even worth upgrading??

Your comments are greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

after upgrade, lose all stuff ?

I did the upgrade to fix a sd card reading/freezing problem. Even though it said it would erase everything, it will back up your current stuff, so after you can reload. It works great.

You definitely want to re-install all your apps and info after doing a ROM upgrade. Restoring a backup to a new ROM can lead to all kinds of unexpected issues and conflicts. What I have found in my personal experience is that if you just backup your PIM info and restore it no problems arise. Is the upgrade worth it? Well that's up to you to decide. If you're happy with the way your device is working now then don't upgrade. The best thing to do is read the documentaion about the upgrade and see if there's anything in it that addresses some problem you've been having. In the case of the Dell Axim X3 System Update Utility for Windows Mobile 2003 have you been having prblems maintaining a USB connection? If you have then this update is for you.

Restoring Programs is actually quite easy if you used activesynce to install them.

HTH

Great... actually my biggest concern is that mapopolis says that the free maps expire, but they never have expired on my axim, and i don't know if this is a bug or what, so i was worried if i reinstall it, that bug might be fixed and my maps might expire! that's really why i don't want to reinstall everything, hehe

if you do a restore, all your trialware will expire! Whether it should or not!

Do not do a restore, as it will mess up the odyssey client.

Simply do the upgrade and reinstall your apps...it's your best bet.

It kept splaying the first and last pins in the Axim out! Sucks. But now I have a refurbished one YES THE THIRD I know... So help me here!! Two questions......

1: Do I have to reload ALL the infor onto the new AXIM or can i just Use the Backup from the 1st one???

If that's the same ROM version as the one you sent in no problem, restore away. Restore only works well with the same ROM version.
