ThinkOutside IR keyboard

I wanted to know if the driver for ThinkOutside's infrared keyboard will work with the Axim X30. I know it's compatible with the older Axims but with WM2003SE's landscape mode...well it's making me hesitant...

Thanks!

Doesn't anyone have any experience with this keyboard and their X30s?

It's not the same thing. The Dell is a Blootooth keyboard. the one we're talking about is Infra red. And yes, it works great. I got a palm wireless keyboard which is identical to thinkoutside's stowaway IR keyboard. After downloading and installing the PPC driver from thinkoutside's site, the keyboard worked great. Just a few quirks with SE (landscape) compatibility, but I found an easy work around for that.

Vill - what did you pay for the keyboard, how long did it take to get it and what were the landscape glitches you came across and work arounds?

Did you consider the Targus IR keyboard that has been discussed a good bit in these forums and if so why did you go for the ThinkOutside?

Thanks in advance for answers, I'm still trying to sort out the keyboard options and really do want something that works well in landscape mode.

I bought the Palm Infrared Wireless keyboard for 39.95. Bought it in Amazon. It's cheaper than the Stowaway Infrared wireless keyboard. Got it in about a week.

When you're in landscape mode and you enable the keyboard driver, the screen freaks out by showing only, what I'm guessing is 240 pixels. The other pixels on the right shows whatever is behind the current window. Like if the only program is running is word and you enable the keyboard. you see the first 240 pixels from left to right and then the rest shows the Today screen. My work around is after I enable the driver and the screen gets all messed up, I change from stowaway keyboard to the ordinary keyboard that shows on the screen. Hope you understood that...Just ask again if you want me to explain in more detail.

Yup. I think I pretty much compaired all if not most of the IR keyboards available for the X30H. What made me choose the stowaway is that I have had past experiencees with Stowaway keyboards. I've always liked them so that was a big plus on this keyboard. I didn't like the Targus as much because of how it looked. Sure the mouse thing is a good feature but I don't mind using the stylus every so often while I type.

You're welcome! Who knows...maybe ThinkOutside will come up with an updated driver that will be truly compatible wth landscape mode. But as of now my workaround is working perfectly. It only takes about 3 seconds to do. The driver adds itself to the input options on the bottom right so all you have to do is choose stowaway keybord and press on the button that turns on IR. The screen will mess up here as described above. Then switch back to the usual input method that you use->(keyboard, fitaly, transcriber...etc.) Once you switch back, the screen will be normal again. You will still be able to use the keyboard.

Just wanted to explain a little more in case you didn't understand in my first try.

Good luck wth choosing!

ThinkOutside just replied to my email about releasing a driver that is really compatible with Windows Mobile 2003 SE.Turns out that their driver for the Bluetooth keyboard can also be used for their IR keyboard and even the ordinary keyboards that connect to the serial port. You can download it from their site. Just go to support and choose Stowaway Bluetooth driver. Once you've installed the driver, there will be an option to choose which keyboard you will be using. I'm using the driver now with no problems whatsoever.

Just a little heads up.

OK, Vill. Now I'm a bit confused. In your post back on 8/27/04 you said ...

Pls advise.

Yup. I think you got that right. I am using a "Palm rebranded" Stowaway Infrared keyboard. In order to make this work with my Dell Axim X30, I installed the stowaway Bluetooth driver. After installation, the software will ask which keyboard you have...bluetooth, IR or serial. So you can use stowaway driver V3.1 with all 3 keyboards.

Palm IR keyboards and the stowaway IR keyboards are the same. Palm merely put their name on it.
