What makes Pocket Informant better than Outlook?

I purchased PI, installed for a couple of days, played with it, and honestly thought it was abit heavy on resources, slow, and somewhat difficult to use. I wasn't really enthused (still am not) about using Outlook, but fired it up today (Outlook 2003), and it seems to work pretty good. Simple, but good.

What will PI give me over Outlook? I just Yahoo-synced my Palm Desktop to Outlook, then to my Axim. If ire-install PI will it retain my existing Outlook calendar? Can I still use Outlook 2003 on my desktop to enter dates on my calendar, contacts, etc. and Activesync them to PI on my Axim?

Thanks for your help.

PI gives you a much more custimozable PIM with a better interface. When I first tried it, I thought it wasn't worth the $26 they charge for it. When it went on sale for $13, I just bought it because I figured that a few thousand users can't be wrong. After using it for over a week, I wouldn't even think about going back to the default pim.

I did, however, use the default pim with SBSH.net PocketBreeze before I got PI and it makes the default pim MUCH, MUCH better. Pocket Breeze is awesome!

Now that I have Pocket Breeze and PI, I'll never go back to default.

Yes, you can do all the things you mentioned. I believe PI uses the same database as the default PIM so everything transfers over when you install it.

I can't help you much on this but would appreciate some help also. I posted on hardware problems yestterday and have had no response. I just recieved my axim, upgrading from older ipaq and do not know if I can view contacts as I have before. On ipaq I can press on pad to view fron list then press again to go back to list view of all contacts, ny new axim will not switch back to list view without hiting ok, this is frustrating as I am driving and cannot use 2 hands. Would someone please advise me if there axim x30 will switch back or is mine defective?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but from what info I've gathered researching PI when I was in the market is... Since all these pim programs use the same database, the synch process is unchanged. What what does change is the ability to customize just about anything you want including category filters, colors, icons, and a whole bunch of other stuff I havn't tried yet.

Try pressing the contact hard button, then using the directional pad to scroll down and pressing the action button to view the contact and press the action button again to return to the contact list. This can be done easily with one hand but I don't know if the default contact program does this... It works fine with PI. Hope this helps.

That's a good question. It would seem that the extra functions wouldn't quite transfer correctly. I'm just getting to the point of having my vital apps set up the way I want, and getting some functionality out of the PPC. I'd hate to screw up my PIM at this point, but I guess that's what Sprite Backup is for.

Thanks for the help all.
