Hi, I have read alot of threads about people having problems getting Activesync to work over bluetooth. Has anyone been able to get it to work? I have a Axim x30 high and a Inspiron notebook, after following all the istructions it connects then I get the microsoft error on the notebook. I know it has something to do with the port settings, the bt serial is com 4 on the notebook.
Activesync via BT uses virtual serial COM ports for connection. You have identified that your COM port on the notebook is COM4. You need to make sure that the BT serial port service is first enabled. Once it is enabled then use BT manager on the Axim to detect it. Next open Activesync on the desktop. Goto File -> Connection Settings. Select COM4 in the first dropdown. Then go back to the BT manager on your Axim and make a connection using the serial icon that was discovered and created by the BT Manager.
Today was my first day of freedom for the last 3 days. After 3 days of struggling with my Belkin dongle, WindowsXP SP2, Activesync, and My Bluetooth Places, I took the dongle back to Circuit City and got my 40 bucks back.
I will now connect my Axim X30 to Activesynch via the USB cord, apparently the way God meant it for me.
I feel liberated, and now will never have to think about Bluetooth again!
Thanks for all the replies. whitelyt, I followed your info and the notebook shows I connected the bt successfully. The activesync actually showed "connected" for about 30 sec then it appears to time out and I get the microsoft activesync error saying "Microsoft activesync cannot recognize this device for one of two reasons". By the way, I have not let MS put sp2 on my notebook yet. The problem must be with the activesync side of things or I am just loosing my mind.
...mine is able to activesync via BT but i just dock it.

i have the same bt problem since installing sp2 my bt has not work i even get an error in start up. right now im waiting for the microsoft technical support to get in touch with me on the issue, since we tried to troubleshoot the problem.
I have no problems syncing via BT with a Dell XPS - XPsp2. You must use the BT manager shortcut to sync not use the connect button in the activesyn app.
I have Activesync working via BT with my X30. I have an IBM laptop with Win XP SP2 and an Iogear BT dongle. I do NOT use the Microsoft BT drivers and applications. I use the Iogear applications.
1. I added a virtual serial port to my Bluetooth configuration on my laptop.
2. I configured Activesync to use that serial port for the 'serial port or infrared sync' option.
3. On the X30, I paired the X30 and my laptop. This is done within Bluetooth Manager, tools, paired devices.
4. In the Bluetooth manager, I clicked 'new' and then selected the Activesync via Bluetooth option. In the next screen, I selected my laptop to sync with.
I would just forget it and use the cradle or the usb cable. Scroll through all the topics in this forum regarding Bluetooth and you'll find that the majority of people encounter problems setting it up. It's just not worth the aggravation.
Just remember... if you disconnect the BT dongle, You will likely need to delete and reconfigure the comm port upon reconnecting it. Then you have to tell active sync to ''get connected" again.
At least this is what happens to me (using xp sp2)... other than that it works good.
