Recommended input method

I have had the X30H for around one week and as it is my first PPC I have still a long road to learn. I have read a very nice thread about input methods but it was for the X5.

I have seen the Fitaly keyboard and it looks impressive. I was looking for something that can give me some support in other languages also (auto-completion is a big lost in other languages). I write a lot in spanish and a little norwegian too. Is Calligrapher the only method that offers multi-language auto-completion or do you know of any other? How good is Calligrapher in your opinion?

In general, which is your favorite and recommended input method?

After looking at just about every input method and trying most of them I went with the Tengo keyboard. Once you get used to it you can really boogy.

I don't know if they have other language localizations, though.

Check it out at

Very impresive. I have written them an email asking for the multilanguage support. I really like to have multi language autocompletion as caligrapher offers. Thanks.

IMO Calligrapher is the best input method. Its almost all I use for input. For me its accuracy is very high

havent tried any of the other options mentioned above but I have been trialling a demo of SPB Full Screen Keyboard for a week or so now.
I checked the FAQs on their site regards languages and below are the answers:
See for your self at http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/prod...aq.html?en#a06

----FAQ entries-----------
6. Does FSK support my language?

Spb Full Screen Keyboard can be localized to support any language. In fact, you can type any Unicode character while using FSK. All customizations are done via 'skins'. A skin is a set of files that describe the keyboard layout and look. The first file has a picture of a keyboard along with key borders, while the second one defines Unicode character codes for each key. We are developing several national skins at the moment and will be releasing them one-by-one as they are completed. If you do not want to wait until a skin for your language is released, you may either help us by e-mailing a picture of your keyboard or create a skin on your own. More information on creating skins can be found in the detailed instructions (a PDF file that requires Acrobat Reader). There are also some national skins available.
7. How can I use the word completion feature?

The word completion feature is enabled by default. When you type a word Spb Full Screen Keyboard tries to predict the word you're typing and complete it. If you want to accept the predicted word you should press the right arrow key, otherwise just continue typing.

You can change word completion options in the Spb Full Screen Keyboard options. Please note that Spb Full Screen Keyboard does not use system word completion settings.

You can download and install different word completion dictionaries. For example most national skins contain a word completion dictionary for the corresponding language.

I also tend to prefer TenGo. I used Fitaly (and liked it), but after getting used to SMS-ing on my cell phone, I found TenGo much easier to use. The predictive algorithm is excellent, an I love that it adds word automatically to its dictionary as you use them!

The one caveat I would add is that you need to watch what you are doing, as TenGo doesn't always choose the word you want when you want it. I typed a few emails on my Axim the other night and got a bit ahead of myself. Some very common shorter words were incorrect, simply because I was typing and not watching.

Yup, I agree. You can tap out letters so fast with TenGo that you can easily get ahead of it's algorithms on 2 or 3 letter words and get 'of' instead of 'so', and so on. I've even tapped so fast that the algorithm has misspelled a couple of large words when it writes to the screen (predictive box is correct, but screen-write couldn't keep up and actually left out a couple letters... )

I use/love Calligrapher but only after I went through the refinement tool that let you specify your writing method for each letter. That refinement increased the recognition % to the point where it is almost perfect every time.

http://www.penreader.com/PocketPC.html have possibly the largest range of PPC language products.

I've used them in English, French, Polish, Romanian and Greek and have been very happy with them. I have not used them for Norwegian -- I don't speak Norwegian.

Most of them have trials, take a look.

Hi Thorz, just buy a stowaway bluetooth keyboard. You can buy them at Dell (they print their logo on it but it's actually a stowaway keyboard) or at http://www.thinkoutside.com/products/stowaway-bt.html (very good looking keyboard that is!)
The little stylus is nice for quick notes but if you're gonna use it for MSN, typing letters/stuff in Word etc. i recommend a keyboard.

Thanks a lot buddy, I was needing something like that too. I wonder if they can work also as autocompletion dictionaries?

@all:

Thanks for the sugerences. I am still waiting for an answer from Tengo, if they can work with autocomplete in multiple languages then I am set.

@DaanX30High: I am looking more for a software input method, it suits more to my needs. Thank you pal. The disadvantage of the external keyb is that you cannot use spelling checker, I use to use the autocorrection as a spelling checker also while I write.

Unfortunately at the moment, I think not.

But, what you could do is load one of their dictionaries into an 'autocomplete' product - Some 'autocompletes' have the ability to import custom dictionaries - just check out their ability to handle the relevant character set. Unicode is not 'unicode'!?

I get so p'd off with software companies claiming international compatibility, that then fall at the first character they don't recognise - like really dumb people!

Cheers
