Anyone own the new Wireless-G Broadband Router?
Ive been reading up on problems people have been having about their wireless connection.
My X30 (High) isnt here yet, but I have bought the Wireless-G router (which is compatable with B) and is boxed up until my X30 gets here. (model WRT54G)
Does anyone else own this router? It's fairly new...Best Buy is selling them buy the crate loads. It's put out by Linksys and is WiFi certified.
I just wanna know if someone owns the same exact thing and if they ever had any problems with it.

U should read more up on Speedboosters. they really dont do much plus the X30 are only B which is slower then G. which mean u are not going to take advantage of the G. and speedboosters are not what it seems u need to keep it on a channel and u have to use one of the same company adapters. I dont know if u know much about computer but 8x AGP compare to 4X agp only give you Like 5 more FPS. Which u cant tell the deferent. this is the same thing with speedboosters and u have to keep in mind thing like microwave and 2.4ghz phones in your house will reduce the performance. anyway just read up on this subject Google it.but a G router is a most.

I've been using this router for 3 months now without any problems. I connect wireless to my Inspiron and the X30. The only thing that I had to do was change the wireless security settings on the router's Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) from AES (Advanced Encryption Standard)to TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) to talk to the axim, other than that like I said no problems.

If you have a choice among the speedboster model and a less costly, I'd go with the non-speedboster model. The 108 thing is mostly hype.

DON'T GET SPEEDBOOST.
All of this extra speed comes from simply using 2-channels of RF simultaneously. No matter how they try to mask it, the 802.1x protocols were NEVER meant to be used in such a manner.
To get back to the question...I have had the WRT54G for almost a year now with absolutely zero problems. Haven't received my X30h yet, but 2 towers and 2 laptops work just fine on Time Warner's RoadRunner. I also put the same router on my dad's SBC DSL line without any issues. Each setup took about 4.5 minutes out of the box.

I also have that system with speedbooster.(it was on sale and also got a $20 rebate. It works well and I'm getting 54 kbps on my laptop outside on my deck. It is faster than when my laptop was hooked up to my telephone wire.(only got 50 kbps)

get better antennas instead
I have the G- Router... i opted not to get the speedbooster.
The best thing i can suggest is buying the aftermarket antennas. They're longer and with lots of girth. They're about 50 bucks and screw inplace of the factory antennas. They increase range and signal strength by almost double.
Also, yes, encrypt your shiznit! when i first set up my network, our house's wireless and our neighbor's wireless would sabotage each other and neither of us could use the internet. It took us a week before we figured out which neighbor it was who had the rogue wifi. DON"T KEEP AN OPEN NETWORK. :exc:
GOOD LUCK! :approve:
